Mountain Adventure 5k/20k

Welcome to the inaugural event of the new Mountain Adventure Races in the Smokies! This event continues where the previous SEAL extreme challenge events left off at Outdoors in the Smokies in Cosby, TN. Many of us have run the SEAL events in the past and have had wonderful experiences there. When the previous race director announced the end of the SEAL series, we decided this was just too good of a racing venue to not do something to continue these events.

Under the new name Mountain Adventure Races, these events are back better than ever. We will incorporate nature's own obstacles along with quite a few others to make this a marquee event. We are not Spartan, we are not Tough Mudder, nor do we want to be. But we do want you to experience an obstacle/trail race event you won't soon forget.

This venue is known for incredible terrain which will present a challenge for the most seasoned trail runner and obstacle racer. With this series we are upping the ante by adding more obstacles in addition to the natural ones provided by the venue.

We have two options, a tough 5k one lap event, or a four lap 20k event for those that want more. Racers will get a sweet tech shirt along with assorted other race swag. There will be food offered by a local nonprofit and camping will be available on site for a small fee. For those of you who have run here before, the after party and camaraderie are not to be missed, and we will continue that tradition.

Yes it will be tough both physically and mentally. But you will also achieve immense satisfaction from completing this race whether you choose the 5K or 20K option. It will challenge you just like any good race should. We want you to come away from this race knowing you pushed yourself, and you overcame doubts and fears. And most of all we want you to return for more along with friends, family and colleagues.

We plan to make this a regular event and look forward to adding other options in the future including longer duration runs, more obstacles, etc. The race course will always be a bit different for each event. Plan on running this awesome event and bring your runner friends and family. This will be a premier event in East TN and is limited to 200 total participants.

Camping is available on site. Please contact Dan Schreder at Ex.seal.165@gmail.com for more information and to reserve a site.

A significant portion of any proceeds will be used to update the course for future races and also to donate to local high school athletic programs. There will be an option at registration and on site to donate to the Cosby High School athletic program if you so choose. Funding for the schools continues to diminish, and we want to keep kids active in athletics. I'm a firm believer that keeping kids active while young translates into active adults. Thank you for your support and we will see you April 23, 2016!

Note from the Race Director

Thank you for viewing our registration site, and it is my sincere hope that you continue on and register! Having run events at this venue over the years I couldn't bear to think that they would not continue and wanted to do something to continue races and offer these to East TN and the surrounding community.

This race will challenge runners of all abilities. Whether you run trails, obstacle races, road races, triathlons, etc., I think you will enjoy this race and venue. It will be tough but certainly doable, and I believe finishing will result in the satisfaction that you pushed yourself but overcame the challenges.

This event is limited to 200 total participants. Having run events with many thousands, that is not the objective here. My objective is to provide a fun but tough race not with hoards of people but with a manageable group that we get to know personally and hope to see repeatedly at future events with your friends and family. Also since this is a small event, the budget is very tight and fees are nonrefundable. Please contact me with any questions, and I hope to see you on April 23, 2016.
