Monastery Trail Races (8mile/5K/1.5 mile)

Monastery Trail Races
Revolution Running is excited to be a part of the Monastery 8 mile, 5K, & 1.5 mile trail race again for the 8th year! This event is unlike any other race you'll go to.. ever! New this year to celebrate it's 8th year of the race we've added the 8 mile race! The race starts in front of the Monastery Visitor Center and then goes on the trails behind the Monastery (no one is allowed except for this race). You'll run past lakes filled with ducks and open fields with amazing views. After all the amazingness you'll run up repentance hill (a 1/4 mile challenging hill in the middle of the course). Then you'll run through more amazing trails and end up at the Visitor Center. The 8 mile race will continue behind the Monastery and you'll run amazing new trails in a canopy of trees!
All races will start at 8:30am but feel free to go to mass before the race at 7:00am. Awards for the 5K will be (male/ female) top 3 overall and top 3 overall masters, 10 & under, 11-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-69, 60-64, 65+. For the 8 mile race the top 3 men and women will get a prize and all other finishers will get a finishers medal.Race proceeds go to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit.

After the race take the family to visit and enjoy the Monastic Heritage Center which features a display of the history of monastism. You will also enjoy shopping in gift shop and Bonsai store as well as a stroll through the Bonsai garden. Spend some quiet time on the lakeside and peaceful grounds. Then take a stroll, hike, or bike ride along the scenic “hike and bike” trail that spread along the entire 30+ miles of the Arabia Mountain PATH hike/bike trail that begins at the Monastery.

RACE DAY INFO

Thank you all so much for coming out this Saturday to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit and the 8th Annual Monastery Trail Races. Saturday’s forecast looks like it’s going to be amazing! We hope that you have a great race day experience so here are a few notes before race day to help answer some questions.
Early packet p/u is @ The Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers from 12pm-5pm Friday for those who would like to get their # and shirt early.
Packet p/u the morning of the race starts 6:30 for those wanting to attend Mass in front of the Monastery Store and pick up will go until 8:15 that morning.
All 3 races start @ 8:30am.
Race morning parking will be in the field across from the Monastery Store and the field in front of the church.
There will be 6 portopotties across from the store, plan accordingly.
There are bugs out there! We’ll have bug repellant on the tables around registration if you want to stay bug free.
Please make sure your bib is visible when coming through the finish line. If you decide to change your race distance please email us ahead of time or let us know before the race starts. Your name will be on your bib so if you swap with someone or your neighbor is running in your place let us know so, for example, a 43 year old man doesn’t win the under 10 female age group. Lol.
Age group awards will be given out for the 5K after the last runner has finished the race and ALL 8 milers will receive a medal. (you’ll earn it, trust me)
The course is mostly trail with a mix of service type light gravel road mixed in for all 3 races. The 5K will be marked with pink flagging, the 8 mile route is marked with white flags, and the 1.5 mile route is marked with green flagging. All turns will be marked so run aware and pay attention to the turns. All 3 races follow the same course until about .75 miles in and then the 1.5 milers head back to the finish. The 5K and 8 milers are exactly the same until 3 miles in and the 8 milers split to the back part of the trail and the 5K heads to the finish. The 5K and the 8 miler is tough and we recommend you carry some sort of water bottle if you’re running the 8 miler. There will be 1 water stop for the 5K at the top of the hill about mile 1.8 (also the first one for the 8 milers) and 1 more on the course (unmanned) that you pass twice for the 8 milers @ mile 3.5 and mile 7.2. (all distances are ish*) We’re supplying water bottles for all preregistered runners and we’ll have hoses set up to fill them if you would like to carry them on the course.
Stop by and thank our sponsors on race day! Altra Running, NEWSOLE Running, Jailhouse Brewing Company, JMC HOMES, Jennifer Simmons Photography, Bohland Family& Sports Chiropractic, Advocare- Annie Randolph, Edward Jones, Crossfit locust Grove & Proactive Rehab Inc.
