Presidential 5K Overview
RACE STARTS AT 10:00 AM. Beyond Limits Running and Red Rock Running Company have partnered together to host the 1st Annual Presidential 5K on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Cornerstone Park (the final day of the 7th Annual Jackpot Ultra Running Festival).
Established in 1885 to honor George Washington, the holiday now known as Presidents Day, was created in 1971 and added another three-day weekend for the nation’s workers. Start your day-off by sleeping-in a little bit and then dress-up as your favorite president, or least favorite president, and join us for this mid-morning 5K start. For those runners who don’t want to dress-up as one of our 45 presidents, feel free to dress in your best brightly colored red, white and blue Independence Day running attire. Since it’s too darn hot in Southern Nevada to run a 4th of July race, we’re encouraging folks to celebrate this summer holiday during the cool month of February. Dress to impress as awards for the best president and/or patriotic outfit will be awarded. Speaking of awards, podium winners and age group winners will receive patriotic themed awards. All runners will receive a presidential medal, along with a presidential bandana and other presidential swag. Additionally, all Presidential 5K runners and their families will be invited to the USA Track & Field 100 Mile Championship Packet Pick-Up Viewing Party on Friday, February 14th at the Jackpot Ultra Running Festival.
Packet Pick-Up Viewing Party
Gone are the days of boring packet pick-ups! All Presidential 5K runners, along with their family and friends, are invited to the USA Track & Field 100 Mile National Championship Packet Pick-Up Viewing Party on Friday, February 14th from 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM at the Jackpot Ultra Running Festival at Cornerstone Park. For the past 6 years, Beyond Limits Running has produced the Jackpot Ultra Running Festival, Sin City’s premier endurance running festival, at Cornerstone Park. Jackpot features 7 ultra running distance races, including the 2020 USA Track & Field 100 Mile National Championship race. Since the Championship race starts Friday morning, we thought it would be fun to have the Presidential 5K Packet Pick-Up during the time when the winners are projected to finish. Enjoy live music, pictures with the Fabulous Las Vegas Showgirls, along with food and beverages, as we cheer on the fastest endurance runners in the country. Stick around into the evening with your family and relax watching outdoor movies as the Jackpot 48-hour runners pass-by every 2.5 miles. About the Venue and Course
Located minutes from the Las Vegas strip and just 9 miles from the Vegas airport, the $16 million, 100-acre Cornerstone Park is nestled among desert landscape and is anchored by a 31-acre bird sanctuary lake. The lake is surrounded by a massive grass area, entertainment plaza, picnic pavilions with lake views, volleyball and basketball courts, restrooms, BBQ’s, and of course some of the best walking/running park trails in Southern Nevada. Presidential 5K runners will run on the 2.5-mile USATF certified Jackpot Ultra course (with a 0.6 mile adder). The course has just 80 feet of gentle elevation ascend/descend and with average mid-February high/low temperatures of 61/45, the course has proved to be very fast over the last 6 years. Running on a course that is 45% wide asphalt paths, 45% smooth crushed gravel trails, 5% grass and just 5% bridge/concrete surfaces, the course is well suited for runners gunning for a new PR. The RFID live chip race starts at the entertainment plaza and makes a horseshoe type loop around the lake with lots of social runner interactions and two picturesque lake bridge crossings.
