Fire Tower is going virtual for 2020!
Due to the COVID pandemic, and the uncertainty of being able to hold an event this Fall, we have decided to convert the Fire Tower Trail Races into a virtual event. Right now many race companies, and vendors that support races, are hurting. By participating in virtual events, you can help keep this industry alive, and vibrant, into the future. That’s why we’re choosing to continue to race however we can.
The virtual events are only $50 for each distance. You will get an awesome beanie and headwrap from SweatVac with our awesome logo on it. Plus, you’ll get a cool finisher patch, that is being made specifically for the 2020 edition of the Fire Tower Races. You can run anytime in the month of September, and simply need to report your results back to our Ultrasignup reporting site before the end of the month. Additionally, we’ve now added a course map, along with GPX and Strava files, to the Course Description page. That means that if you’d like to run your distance on the actual course (minus the fire tower which is closed), you can! The course maps are for the 50K distance, with the 100K doing the course twice, and the 25K going to the Fire Tower and back. If you would like to do the 12.5K, you are free to run wherever you would like, as that course was not designed yet.
You can run your distance in one activity, or multiple. You can take as long as you like, but your start time begins at the start of your first run, and ends when you complete your final run for your distance. However, if you run your distance on the actual course, in a single activity, you will be eligible to be counted as a course record holder (pending GPS data verification).
We were so excited to bring this race to you in 2020, however, we can’t wait to see what people do in their virtual events. Wear your swag proudly and know that you’re helping keep racing alive into the future. We can’t wait to see all of you next year when we can gather for a beautiful Fall day in the woods.
Come experience beautiful St. Croix State Park and the scenic Kettle River valley! The Fire Tower Trail Races will take you on an adventure through forests and over hills as you complete one of four distances: 100K, 50K, 25K, 12.5K. When you choose to conquer the 25K or longer, you will test your stamina as you climb to the top of the historic fire tower mid-run (twice in the 100K). Discover Minnesota’s largest State Park and explore your limits at the Fire Tower Trail Races.
Local time: 2:27 AM
Oh, and we'll have a "vertigo option" for folks that can't climb the tower all the way!
