A mostly flat, certified 4.5-mile loop on groomed dirt or asphalt path around scenic Lake Merced inSan Francisco, California. The races start in the parking lot at the north end of the lake at the foot of Sunset Boulevard. Runners will enjoy two aid stations per lap stocked with water, electrolytes, and a selection of foods.
Format: Runners will be allowed to choose their distance during the race, but a runner can only be a finisher in one race. Once reaching 50K or 50M, a runner can stop or continue. If the runner stops, he/she is a finisher in that race and his/her tag will be pulled. Choosing to go beyond the 50K / 50M distance makes the runner an entrant and competitor in the next longer event.
50M runners have one cutoff to meet - they should finish their 10th lap (44.2 miles) by 12.5 hours, i.e. by 7 p.m., into the race.
In order to continue to the 100K distance a runner will have to meet two cutoffs:
i) 10 hours 50 minutes (5:20 p.m.) at 48.7 miles (11 laps) and
i) 12 hours and 30 minutes (7 p.m.) at 57.5 miles (13 laps) to be allowed to start the final, or 14th, lap.
SPECIAL NOTE FROM THE RD:
Local time: 3:40 AM
You will, on race day, be free to run whatever distance you choose to at the Start or during the race itself. If you choose to go beyond a race distance, you will automatically be entered in the next higher race distance. If you stop in between race distances, you will not be given credit for the shorter distance i.e. you will DNF the entire race.
