Conditions

The average high is 77, the low is 51 and 4.3 inches of rain are expected for the month of May. This is in the rainy season and it is common to get the bulk of the monthly rain in just a few storms. What you really want to know is what are the chances of sun. %Sun is the percent of time that the sun touches the ground between sunrise and sunset. The average in May is 65%. There is 16,100 ft of climbing, with the biggest climb coming just after crossing the 150 foot wide Hiwassee River at mile 80, a 2,200 foot climb over 3.9 miles.

Noon Start

We decided on a noon start for several reasons: The most technical sections are at the beginning during the light of day, immediately followed by the least technical, best at night. This ensures a unique level of equality forcing everyone to run through the night. Most top runners do not get this treat. This noon start also allows everyone to get a good full night of pre-race sleep and get completely hydrated, fueled, and all normal bodily functions properly executed before the start.

Aid

Runners can expect 15 aid stations with the longest distance between being 10 miles.

Cutoff

There is a strict 30 hour cutoff time and we require all runners to have completed at least one 50K trail race.

Race Proceeds

Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the use, protection and expansion of nature trails in the greater Chattanooga area.
