DESCRIPTION

Ultra Ladies Coaching is the first "WOMEN'S ONLY" coaching program with experience in coaching a wide array of athletes, abilities, and race distances, whether you are new to running or are a veteran who wants to improve your performances. Coaching is a partnership between Coach and Athlete. A good Coach will instill confidence and independence in the athlete, who will gradually learn to be “self-coached” through the process of being coached. Training should involve challenge, balance and fun and should be configured into the runner’s life to not compete against professional or personal time. Goal setting is a huge component of coaching, and monitoring runners to measure their progress is the coach's job. This begins with assessing the Runner and creating a Training Plan that compliments the runner’s abilities and goals.

Nancy believes in keeping your training doable, keeping it balanced, and keeping it fun! Nancy uses "Mindfulness" techniques that focus on empowering individuals' actualization of potential and embodied transformation through guided imagery and visualization techniques combined with a personalized plan to help you meet your running goals. Nancy's UESCA Certification in Endurance Nutrition will help you build the strongest body for running and recovery. While you will have a training plan to follow, the plan is a living document that can change according to your needs as an athlete to build the strongest, most confident version of yourself while maintaining balance with the important parts of your life that also matter (partner, family, work and more). One of Nancy's approaches is to "identify your weaknesses and train to strengthen them." This is how you see the most improvement; it is such a simple concept! “When you train smart, a race is simply a celebration of your hard work.”

MEET YOUR COACH

I am Nancy Shura-Dervin aka "Ultra Mama", founder and owner of Ultra Ladies and Trail Run Events. I have finished over 100 marathons and 100+ mile races, with numerous podium finishes. Nancy was the first person documented to qualify for and finish two of the most prestigious foot races in the world in the same year, the Boston Marathon and the Badwater 135, known as the "World's Toughest Footrace."

"If I Can Do It... You Can Too!"

I am an RRCA Running Coach, UESCA Ultra Running Coach, and UESCA Endurance Nutrition Coach, and I hold an active CA Nursing License. As I didn't start running until age 40, I especially enjoy coaching older athletes. My career as a groundbreaking educator, coach, and motivational speaker in natural childbirth beautifully translates to helping female runners learn the physical, mental, and emotional tools to complete challenging races.

"My Coaching style is "Woman-Centered" that incorporates "MIND-BODY CONNECTION". This holistic and client-centered approach focuses on empowering individuals' actualization of potential and embodied transformation through guided imagery and visualization techniques combined with a personalized plan to help you meet your running goals. My Certification in Endurance Nutrition will help you build the strongest body for running and recovery. I believe in creating a balance between running and life. While you will have a training plan to follow, the plan is a living document that can change according to your needs as an athlete to build the strongest, most confident version of yourself while maintaining balance with the important parts of your life that also matter (partner, family, work and more).

-Maintain a healthy lifestyle conducive to improving your Fitness, Nutrition, Wellness, and Balance.
-To the best of your ability, follow the plan I create for you. (If you want to make big changes to the plan, let's discuss it beforehand, not after you change it)... For example, turning a "training run" into a race or adding bonus miles to your run.

TESTAMONIALS

"Coach Nancy knows her business, cares, meets you where you’re at, and makes it happen. She puts in the work as a Coach and you have to put in the work as the athlete. I highly recommend her as a Coach but mostly as a nice person!
ILA ALLEN -- 2024
"Get Up, Get Out, GET SOME!!"

"I've been training hard, refining my technique based on past experiences, and I got to see first hand the fruits of my labor. I proved to myself that I could be self-reliant and that I could work through challenges without alot of handholding. I ran alone, with only my own thoughts for company, no pacers, no on-site coach. I overcame low spots with positive thoughts, visualizing, and of course food, always more food. I drained and taped up blisters on my own 60+ miles in. I had fun through it all. I was exactly where I wanted to be. Thank you Nancy for helping me find my confidence and for being my ultrarunning rock. To all the ULs, particularly the newer ladies, trust the training, trust yourself, look for lessons, and never stop improving."
IVY CASTILLO -- 2022
First 100-Mile finish

"Thank you for all of the support the last few months. You have helped me get into a groove as far as consistent training and realizing that I can do hard things. Because of these difficult times I don't think I could have established my running again without your support; it has made a tremendous impact on my life and the way I look at things. Even though my work as a teacher is especially hard right now I know that if I get my run in my day is going to be great."
ROXANNE HONAKER -- 2020
