2017 BIG BUTTS, presented by MUTS (MS Ultra and Trail Society), is a trail race with an individual 100k and 50k, and a 2-4 person 100k relay. The start is at the Mississippi College cross country Choctaw Trails pavilion with 7.75 mile loops on both the cross country trails and Butts Park single track trails. There is plenty of room around the start to set up your own aid, tents, coolers, chairs, etc. The course itself is not technical and has a few small hills, but the MS heat and humidity of late July make this race a BIG challenge. Only a few people over the years have completed the 100K.
Time: 6:30am--8:30pm--14 hour time limit for all 3 races
Aid Stations: S/F aid station and one aid station on the course with water, Tailwind sports drink, and food. http://www.tailwindnutrition.com/
Entry fee: $40 for each individual race with a price increase to $50 on July 1st, and $30/person for relay members with an increase to $40 on July 1st. MUTS members get a $5 discount at checkout.
Relay: 2, 3, or 4 person relay, alternate laps however you choose. If you are the first member of your team, choose a name. Each additional member will be prompted to select that team name at registration.
Weather: The race will only be run on the cross country trails if there is a lot of rain prior to the race because Butts Park is also a mountain biking trail. The race will be suspended for thunder and lightning.
Proceeds from the race will go to CARA, Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, a no-kill shelter located in Jackson who care for an average of 300 dogs and 120 cats daily. www.carams.org
