Montana de Oro

Montaña de Oro

Los Osos, CA 8K, 12K, 25K, 50K

This Event Took Place Sat. Aug 10, 2013

Race Information

Welcome to the "MdO Trail Run". Montana de Oro State Park is located just outside of San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay in Los Osos California. The "Mountain of Gold" is a coastal treasure. It offers a mix of rugged, rocky cliffs, coastal plains, sandy beaches and streams. The start-finish line for all distances will be at Spooner's Cove Beach.

This year, we bring you a brand new course named "Three Peaks" after Hazard Peak, Valencia Peak, and Oat's Peak. You'll be running on trails as old as the Chumush people as you explore one, two, or three peaks nestled in the flora with epic views of the Pacific Ocean, nearby beaches, and Morro Bay.

Entry Fees
- 13K: $50 $60 (Jan 1 2018)
- Half Marathon: $60, $70 (Jan 1, 2018)

- 50K: $85, $95 (Jan 1, 2018)

All entrants will be guaranteed a shirt size they ordered if registered by March 4, 2018.

SPECIAL THANKS

We want to personally thank Thomas Reiss and the SLO Trail Runners club for all your support. The new course "Three Peaks" is a design courtesy of Thomas Reiss and Jadd Martinez. As the new owners of PCTR, it's important that we listen to our runners and make bold changes to impact the quality of your experience. In this case, we heard the old course was boring, so here we go... enjoy!

Aid Stations & Drop Bags

There will be four aid Stations on course: three on the course and one will be at Spooner's Cove start-finish line and the other at Bluff Trail Head at Pecho Valley Rd dead-end parking lot. See course maps for more details.

We will provide a bananas, tangerines, salted potato chips PB&J sandwiches, Salt Stick salt tabs, sugary and salty snacks, Limited supply of gels, electrolyte sports drink, cola, ginger ale and water.

Please note that we do not supply homemade boiled potatoes in order to comply with the California Health Code. We will also not serve canned potatoes. You will also find that we will have snack bags instead of community bowls (except for potato chips) of snacks that your "ultra clean trail running" hands will dig it to. :-) Health and safety is expanding into food handling at trail running events. If you need potatoes, then please put in drop bags.

Drop Bags
Are allowed at the start/finish line. We do recommend putting your favorite foods and other gear there for your own personal pleasure. Additionally, it is highly recommended that runners carry at least 20 oz. of water between aid station.

Shirts & Awards

Shirts
All participants that register by March 4, 2018 will be guaranteed their requested shirt size. Since we always get late signups, we have to guess on what sizes to order. We will order more, but sometimes one or two people won’t get the size they wanted. Those registering after March 4th may get the size they requested. Good news is that we have last year’s shirts (no date on them) as back up to find your fit. All race day registrants have a 50/50 shot at receiving a shirt. We will order extra shirts based upon previous race data and relative entries.

Shirt Material
To help you with your decision making process, we can tell you the "Tech-Material" (not cotton) shirts are made by Sport-Tek and generally run true to size. More "roomy" than "fitted".

Awards
All finishers will receive a handmade wood medal from Elevation Culture.

50K Finishers will receive a commemorative "Ultra Marathon" coaster from the event.

VOLUNTEERING, REFUNDS, TRANSFERS, RACE CREDIT POLICIES

Volunteering
Volunteers and our amazing PCTR team are what make our trail running events thrive. We pride ourselves in how much we respect and reward our volunteers. Love those ”Go run a trail” shirts? Well, volunteering is the only way to get those. We also like to feed you with our amazing post-race BBQ. We also sometimes order other swag like trucker hats or beanies for volunteers depending on the event.

Shall you like to volunteer for one of our events, then please email Greg at RunPCTR@gmailcom.

If you bring a friend or family member and they don't enter events, you earn their credits.
- Earn $10 in Race Credits for every hour worked. (4hrs = $40)
- Round 1/2 hours up. (5.5hrs = $60)
- Earn 2X Credits for bad weather volunteering.
- Earn 2X Credits for volunteering for night shifts after 8pm and before 6am.
- Volunteer 8+ hour shift and earn $40 bonus credits for event.
- Receive the coveted PCTR "Go Run a Trail!" shirt and more.

If you are unable to participate in the event you paid for and miss the 45 or 14 day window because you are unable to run due to injury or under training, and volunteer at the intended event or another event within 30 days of your event, then we will apply 100% race credit for a future PCTR event. You will also receive additional race credits for the hours you volunteered.

Refunds & Transfers
Entry fees associated with Pacific Coast Trail Run Events are non-refundable and non-transferable. The amount of time and expense that goes into a PCTR event is high. Contracts, permit fees, awards, shirts, and all things associated with your event happen a long time before your race day. Surely, if many of you wanted a refund because you got injured, become sick, or have to attend a family function, then all trail running companies would be out of business. We also do not transfer entries for numerous reasons. We do, and will provide race credits for a future PCTR event (less Ultrasignup.com registration fees) shall something come up that prevents you from attending the event you paid for.

Race Credits
For 100% race credit towards another PCTR event, you must notify us 45 days before your event. For 50% race credit, you must notify PCTR prior to 14 days before your event. For 25% race credit, you must notify PCTR prior to 72 hours remaining before your event. Your race credits will be valid for one year from the time you earned them.

Clean Sport Pledge

We pledge to support clean sport by inviting to athletes to compete at our events who are committed to training, racing and living clean and not inviting athletes to compete who have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. We are in favor of random drug testing, especially when there is prize money offered at the event. Our organization also chooses to not work with coaches and agents that have athletes that are currently working with athletes that have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. We understand we have a responsibility to protect a level playing field and we will be role models in the community as ambassadors and advocates for clean sport. We pledge to honor clean sport by inviting and supporting clean athletes at our races.
