Race Description

The Marin Ultra Challenge, our premier Marin County long distance trail race, delivers ample hills and sweeping descents. March 12th marks the 5th edition of this tour of some of Marin’s best trails. Meticulous effort went into the design of each course for the MUC; all three distances are physically demanding (the 50 Mile has just about 11,000 feet of elevation gain) and exceptionally beautiful. The journey begins underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, then traverses the Marin Headlands, Stinson-facing Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods, exhibiting a range of terrain, from exposed fire-roads with incredible coastal and inland views to tight, technical single-track with redwood canopies. There is very little trail overlap, and Jim Vernon, from The Endurables and Hydrapak, spent hours and weekends developing these spectacular custom courses–we are super excited to show it off. You’ll quickly realize why Marin County has become a trail runner’s destination.

Since this is one of our favorite and most challenging events, we are offering a good little chunk of prize money in the 50 mile race. Male/Female 1st-$400, 2nd-$225, 3rd-$125. In addition, we will have special awards for the 50K distance and each age group. Don’t miss this grand tour of the ultra-running mecca, Marin County, California.

The Marin Ultra Challenge 25K is the first race of the 2016 La Sportiva Mountain Cup. This year’s Mountain Cup is bigger and better than ever, which means the MUC 25K will be amongst the most competitive trail races in Northern California. The 25K will have a total prize purse of $3,000, with $1000 going to the male and female winners, $250 to second overall, and $150 to third overall. We’ll also be raffling off a ton of goodies at the race, including gifts from La Sportiva, Farm to Feet, and Petzl.
