Race Description

Inside Trail is proud to showcase this event. Meticulous effort went into the design of the 50k and 50 mile courses. They are challenging (50 Mile has over 11,000 ft climb) and beautiful. Every step of the race is run on fresh ground with very little overlapping. Jim Vernon from The Endurables spent hours and weekends developing this custom, brand new course and we are super excited to show it off. In fact, we're so excited, we are offering a little chunk of prize money!! In the 50 mile race: Male/Female 1st-$250, 2nd-$150, 3rd-$100, along with special awards for both distances and age groups.

Starting just steps away from historic Fort Baker, in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge, runners may fill their lungs with fresh salt air before embarking on a journey through some of the best trails the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais has to offer, including the beautiful views of Coastal Trail, the inland buffed single track of the Miwok, descend on the famous Dipsea Trail and tackle one of the toughest climbs around - Willow Camp. You'll travel along the coast, by Pirate's Cove, to Muir Beach. Fron there you will cross over to Mt. Tam, climbing to the top of Cardiac Hill then scream down the Dipsea to Stinson Beach. Depart Stinson Beach with the 1,800' of vertical gain in 1.8 miles on Willow Camp and traverse Mt. Tam along the single-track Coastal Trail, back to the top of Cardiac. Enjoy the tall trees as you pass through Muir Woods, before you climb back into the Headlands on Miwok to the killer downhill of Dias Ridge back to Muir Beach. From there, you'll quietly pass through the Zen center and up the incredible new Middle Green Gulch hill. Your journey will ultimately end with amazing vistas of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from the SCA and Coastal trails... all the way back to the finish at Cavallo Point. Aid stations will be packed with all the goodies you love, plus a generous helping of delicious Clif Products!

Time Limit: There is a 14 hour time limit for the 50K and 50 Mile race.


Overall winners of each race distance will receive a medal, a custom glass Stein and an item from the ITR schwag bag.

All ultra-marathon distance finishers will receive a custom printed Pint Glass with the race logo.

All other finishers will receive a custom medal with the race logo.

The Dead Last Finisher (DLF) in each even will receive a custom award.

Age-group medals (3 deep) will be awarded in the following categories, for both males and females:

  • 40 – 49
  • 50 – 59
  • 60 - 69
  • 70 and Over

Aid Stations

At Inside Trail Racing aid stations it’s like an all you can eat buffet, but this is a race, so don’t linger too long! Expect to find variety at all of our aid stations, including a plethora of Clif Bar Products (Clif Shot Gels, Clif Bloks, Clif Bars), as well as sweet and salty offerings like trail mix, pretzels, potato chips, Oreo cookies, Pop Tarts, boiled potatoes with salt, PB&J finger sandwiches, regular soda (Coke or Pepsi), Mountain Dew, water, Tailwind Endurance Fuel, PB&J finger sandwiches, M&M's, Mike & Ike's, salt tablets... you get the idea. There will also be general first aid items but no anti-inflamatory medicine. We strongly encourage all runners to carry at least one 20oz bottle from which to sip while you enjoy your run.
