For almost 4 decades, the first Saturday in May has meant one thing in the scenic hills of Bedford County, Tennessee; the return of the Foot Warriors. And the Ultra-Marathoners have kept coming back to stroll the quiet streets of Wartrace and Bell Buckle, enjoying the picturesque homes and quaint shops. Coming back to share in the reunion of the Ultra community. Coming back to celebrate the end of winter with a run in the inspiring springtime beauty of the Highland Rim. Coming back to be a part of one of the most competitive Road Ultras in the US, and to match their times against the fastest runners of the past 37 years. Coming back to strive for a coveted Gold Shirt... or Blue Shirt... or Red Shirt. Coming back to feast on the bountiful repast at both pre- and post-run festivities. But, most of all, the Ultra-Marathoners keep coming back because, at the Strolling Jim™, every runner is a hero, an honored guest, and a welcomed friend. Join us this May for the 39th running of the race, and you will find your own reasons to keep coming back.
Earn a COLORED shirt and maybe $3000
Establish the new course record for the Strolling Jim 40 and receive $3000!!!.
One of the unique features of the Strolling Jim is the awarding of the "colored" shirt based on excellent finishing times. These shirts are given at the finish and prominently display your achievement in large letters on the back. i.e. Red Strolling Jim Shirt with SUB 7 on the back would be those runners finishing the 40 mile run between 6:00:00 and 6:59:00
For the second year now we award these shirts for special Marathon and 10k times.
The following is the breakdown:
40 mile run
SUB 5 - Gold
SUB 6 - Blue
SUB 7 - Red
SUB 3 - Gold
SUB 3:30 - Blue
SUB 40 - Gold
Train hard. You want one of these.
May 6, 2017
Register now for May 6, 2017. The 39th running of Strolling Jim.
In 2015, Scott Breeden, of Bloomington, IN, chased one of the most revered records in all of ultra running and wound up with the fastest time in over 25 years. His 4:14:30 is the third fastest Jim ever. Andy Jones has the record at 3:59:26.
The pot will sweeten as another $1000 will be added to the purse, so $3000 will be awarded to the person who establishes the new course record for the 41.2 mile course.
Nothing but rave reviews for the new Marathon course, and the 10k course, so if you don't think you can run the 40mile, choose the Marathon, or 10K, or bring a friend with you. A distance for everyone.
As the event continues to grow, so can the fun amenities. See what we have in store for you next.
You don't want to miss it!!!

We received rave reviews for this challenging, but spectacular course. Marathon Maniacs and 50 staters take note! You'll want to run this one..
There is virtually NO TIME LIMIT for the marathon. As long as you are making progress towards the finish, we'll be there.
We will also have the Strolling Jim 10k. This race is getting bigger as the word gets out. Great shirts, medals, and a chance to mingle and start with some true legends of the ultra running sport.
All runners will start together.
10k will peel off at 2.5 miles and run a scenic course. Marathoners run a lot of the 40 mile course.
All distances will receive a sweet Strolling Jim medal, and the same great shirt.
At packet pick up, you'll receive a Strolling Jim shirt, a booklet with history, and course maps, your race bib with timing chip, and perhaps a few giveaways.
As you finish, you will receive your finisher's medal, your color shirt if you earn one, an RRCA Championship medal if you earn one, and a Strolling Jim top finisher trophy if you earn one.
Please don't leave the finish line without your stuff.

Donate to Cascade HS athletics
Laz has been a coach in the school systems for over 30 years. Here's an opportunity to donate a little to help the school he loves. Tighter budgets make it tougher all the time. A significant portion of your Strolling Jim entry fee goes towards helping these worthy programs. If you can afford to give a little more, it will be put to good use. You can do so during the registration process. Thanks so much.
