This Event Took Place Sat. Apr 19, 2014

This race is tough. Real tough. Are you?

[We bet you're pretty dang tough.]

By April, you'll be sick of the clouds and rain, puddles and wet brush. You'll be sick of mud, of dark and dreary days. You'll need some sunlight. This race is one way to get that sunlight, to get out of mud and wet brush, to get up relatively high (3500 feet) and see for miles and miles. This race'll give you hope, hope that summer is coming, is on its way.

Sure, the trail is steep and hard and relentless, with more elevation gain than any other comparable race in the Pacific Northwest, but its worth it, because you can see where you've been and where you're going. With each climb, you're rewarded with ever expanding views of the Columbia Highlands, the Yakima River Canyon, and the Cascade Mountains - including Mt Rainier, Mt Adams, and the Stuart Range. As you climb in and out of the Umtanum and Roza creek valleys, you'll see the ecosystem change before your eyes, and the ridge running here is liberating and invigorating. This race is also GREAT Hardrock training, and great heat training (yup; in APRIL) for later summer races.

The 2016 50k will be Saturday, April 16th. Check-in will start at 6:45 AM, with the race start at 8:00 AM. YOU WILL NEED YOUR PHOTO ID TO CHECK-IN, AND PROOF OF YOUR 40-OUNCES OF WATER. IF YOU DON'T BRING BOTH OF THOSE THINGS TO CHECK-IN YOU WON'T BE GIVEN YOUR BIB/ALLOWED TO START THE RACE. Please visit our website, and the Yakima 50k race-page, for more details on this mandatory water requirement, and more helpful info about the race.

Post-race, we'll have a great spread, with fresh, hot pizza and other tasty fare (including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options), a variety of beverages, and live music provided by The Pine Hearts.

None of the Rainshadow races are easy, and they're all on stunningly beautiful courses, but this race in particular stands out as a fantastic challenge that'll reward you with some seriously fantastic views along the way. Summer starts early in the Rainshadow. Why run anywhere else?
