Online entry at Ultra Signup.com will open on October 1, 2014 at 8:00am central time for Huntsville Track Club members at a fee of $60 (using a code that was provided an a members only email).

Online entry at Ultra Signup.com will open on October 3, 2014 at 8:00am central time for all other applicants with a fee of $70. If you register early and are not an HTC member, you may risk having your entry from the race removed without refund.

Registration

Online entry at Ultra Signup.com will open on October 1, 2014 at 8:00am central time for Huntsville Track Club members only with a fee of $70. A registration code will be provided to the members for to enable early registration. Details about membership and a registration form are located on the HTC website. Membership application must be received and processed by September 28, 2014.

Runners who have completed Mountain Mist 10 times or more are guaranteed entry anytime after registration opens on 10/1 and before registration closes on 12/31 at the standard rate of $70 unless you are also an HTC member. If we reach capacity and you fall into this category and have not registered, please email eric.charette@yahoo.com for special instructions. A list of the 10+ time finishers is noted below.

No paper entry forms will be accepted whatsoever.

Mountain Mist 50km will accept 500 registered runners. Last year we reached our runner capacity within 12 hours with an open field registration format.

Registration will close on December 31 or when our registration capacity has been reached. At that time we will be checking qualifications for each runner. Those not meeting the requirements will have their entry removed removed from the event with no refund of your application fee.

At that time, we may consider adding additional runners from the waitlist, although there is no guarantee that any runners will be added.

There will be no refunds, no race day registration and no race entry transfers to another runner.

The race management reserves the right to deny entry to anyone not demonstrating an appropriate background in endurance activities which would allow them to complete this race in a safe and timely manner. The entry list will be updated weekly on Ultra Signup.

Start Time

You must check in on the morning of the race by 7:00am.  The race will start with or without you at 7:30am sharp.

Registration Qualifications

You must have a Mountain Mist entry qualifier, regardless if you are a Huntsville Track Club member or not. Proof of these prior performances is required as part of this registration. Those demonstrating no previous endurance activities will be denied entry or have your entry to this race removed and no refund will be issued.   • Any previous Mountain Mist 50km finish
  • Any ultra marathon finish in previous 2 years
  • Any marathon finish under 4:40 in previous 2 years
  • Any 70.3 Triathlon finish under 7:00 in previous 2 years
  • Any 140.6 Triathlon finish in previous 2 years
  • Other endurance running activities on case by base basis

Course

This course consists of extremely rocky mountain trails, mud, and creek crossings, not to mention the 3,872 feet of climbing!! There is a vertical climb on the course that requires the use of your upper body.

Conditions

Expect anything...including cancellation due to inclement weather (the mountain can ice over)! Temperatures can range from 10 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.  The race may be cancelled due to snow and ice conditions. If roads are impassable the race may be cancelled. This situation is beyond our control and is not predictable. The decision to cancel the race will be made by the HTC board.

Special Rules

Please note: Due to our liability insurance and safety concerns the following are not allowed during the race: strollers, baby joggers, skateboards, bicycles, animals, rollerblades, headphones, unauthorized vehicles, unentered runners, etc.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.  Violators will be DISQUALIFIED.

Directions

From I-65 take I-565 East to Memorial Parkway South. Continue South on the parkway and exit onto Governor's Drive. Turn left (East) on Governor's Dr. then drive through downtown and up the mountain. Turn left (North) at the stop light on top of the mountain onto Monte Sano Blvd. Continue on Monte Sano Blvd. to Nolen Dr., the entrance of Monte Sano State Park, which will be on the right (East) side of Monte Sano Blvd. Enter the park and the race start will be down on your right at the second road to your right in front of the Lodge.

Packet Pick Up

Packet pickup will be at the Monte Sano Lodge on Friday, January 23, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Race announcements will be made at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Lodge.  Packets may also be picked up on race day from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the Monte Sano Lodge.   Contact Dink or Suzanne Taylor by phone at 256-650-7063 or email at dink@fleetfeethuntsville.com for more information.

Time Limits

There are three checkpoints on the course. Those who do not make the checkpoints in the allowed times will be removed from the course. NO EXCEPTIONS!

TIME LIMITS STRICTLY ENFORCED! THIS IS NOT A HIKE! Cutoff times will be strictly enforced for your safety and to meet the state park guidelines. Any runner who continues after failing to meet the cutoff will be banned from future Mountain Mist Trail Runs.

Results

Race results will be posted at the Huntsville Track Club website, here on Ultra Signup and appear in Ultra Running Magazine.

Awards

There is no awards ceremony. You are responsible for picking up your award at the awards table inside the Lodge. 

Open Men 39 U under: Top 10, Women top 3
Master Men 40-49: Top 10, Women top 3
Grand Master Men 50-59: Top 5, Women top finisher
60 and over Men: Top finisher, Women top finisher

Runners finishing under 8:15:00 will receive a special Smokey Mt. slate finishers' award! Pick up finisher award inside the Lodge at the awards table.

Prerace Dinner

The pre-race dinner will be held at the Monte Sano Lodge, January 23 at 6:00 p.m. During the dinner, guest speakers answer questions, describe the course in detail and share stories of past years.  

Pre-paid tickets (ONLY) can be purchased for $10 for adults and $5 for those under age 12. This is not included in the entry fee.
 

Post Race Party

There will be a post race party at a location to be determined. This is not included in the entry fee.

Medical and Aid

The HEMSI HART Rescue Team www.HEMSI.org, and Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit www.HCRU.org will be providing medical / evacuation assistance again this year.

There will be six major aid/check-in stations equipped with the usual stuff, water, PowerAde, soda, candy, pretzels and junk.  It is recommended that you carry at least one bottle of fluids with you the entire run.
