This Event Took Place Sat. Jun 13, 2015

The Beacon Rock 50k and 25k is one of the most unique party weekends among Rainshadow's family of destination races. Like all of our races, they offer a chance to get away and relax with family and friends, but with the added bonus of a grassy group camp we'll have all to ourselves. The Columbia River Gorge in June is equal amounts brutal and beautiful: The snow will have melted, everything'll be green, and the wildflowers put on quite a show. High vistas offer sweeping views of the Cascades - including Mt Hood and Mt Adams - and the entire Columbia River Gorge.

In 2015, both the 50k and 25k races, and the Kids 1k Fun Run, will be SATURDAY, June 13th, starting at 8 AM, with check-in at the start/finish from 6:45 AM-7:45 AM. We'll likely have events happening Friday, June 12th, as well as festive activities on Sunday, post-race, and FREE group camping all weekend long! We'll send more info out about the aforementioned weekend-long events as we get closer to June.

[Be sure to bring plenty of water/water jugs and/or festive beverages for yourself and your friends and family for the weekend. We won't have Rainshadow supplies out and in action until the 50k/25k on Saturday. PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Well-behaved dogs are allowed at Beacon Rock, but leash-laws will be strictly enforced by park staff, so all dogs will need to be kept on a leash, whether at the group campsite, or on the trails.]

These are family friendly races; if you have kids, bring them and let them enjoy the kid's fun run right before the start of the 50k and 25k races! [Free online registration via UltraSignup, or day-of registration for the kids race during 50k & 25k check-in.]

Post-race, we'll all be hanging out at the finish, lying in the sun-warmed grass, drinking local beer and other tasty beverages, eating pizza and other great food, and listening to live music from The Pine Hearts. (Last year there was even a post-race Slip N' Slide!)

Both the 50k and 25k start and finish at the Beacon Rock State Park group campsite; the 50k is actually two loops of the 25k course. For this run, you'll cover all the best trails in Beacon Rock State Park, including Hardy Ridge, Hardy Creek, and Hamilton Mountain. From Hamilton Mountain's scenic vista, you'll have great views of the Cascades (especially Mt Hood and Mt Adams) and the entire Columbia River Gorge, so don't forget your camera! The 25k gains about 3700 feet, with two big climbs - Hardy (mostly gradual) and Hamilton (mostly steep) - and two long downhills. The 50k gains about 7500 feet and, as its two loops of the 25k, takes you up each climb and down each descent twice. The trails, with the notable exception of the steep climbs, are generally very runnable and in great condition. There's a tiny bit of pavement at the beginning and end of each 25k loop.

You'll have nine hours for each race. For the 50k, there will be five full aid stations (Hardy Ridge at miles 5.5, 11.8, 21.0, and 27.3, and the Group Site at mile 15.5). You'll have drop bag access at mile 15.5 only.

For the 25k, you'll have two full aid stations (Hardy Ridge at miles 5.5 and 11.8). NO DROP BAGS FOR THE 25K.
