The Hellbender One Hundred is one of the most scenic hundred milers on the East Coast. This course will take you through a grueling tour of the massive Black Mountains, deep into the valleys below and to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain East of the Mississippi. With an elevation change of ~26,000+ ft, runners will experience some of the most challenging and beautiful trails in all of Western North Carolina. You'll not want to miss this premiere, graduate level hundred through the heart of Southern Appalachia!
UTMB Qualifying Event
The Hellbender 100 will once again apply for being a 2020 UTMB qualifying race!
Alternate Course/ Race Cancellation
Let's hope it doesn't come to this! Due to the unpredictable weather at this time of year in Western North Carolina, the race director team reserves the right to use an alternate course if in fact safety of the runners becomes an issue due to weather/trail conditions! In the worse case scenario, the race may have to be cancelled and due to the permits and logistics of the race, there will be no make up date. If the race has to be cancelled, no refunds will be issued. The alternate course is currently being worked out with the permit agencies.

Yes, we maintain an ordered wait list through Ultrasignup. As runners withdraw from the race, people on the wait list will be given an opportunity to register for the race based on the order they are listed. Selected participants will be notified via email once you have been selected. We give runners approximately 2 weeks to decide whether they want to sign up or pass on the opportunity. We remove invitations once the appropriate amount of time lapses. If we are within 2 weeks of the end of the registration period, you will get 2 days to decide so that we can fill the rooster with runners who truly want to be in the race.
The odds of getting off the wait list depends primarily on the amount of turnover from the registered runners list. Since we don’t have any control over this, your guess is as good as ours.
