Hello Inaugural Hancock Runners!!!
The fifth and final race in the 2018 Altis Mid-Atlantic Marathon and Half Marathon Series is the inaugural Hancock Marathon and Half Marathon in the wonderful trail town of Hancock! The nearly pancake flat C&O Canal Towpath is the venue for this scenic course. The C&O Canal Towpath is a fantastic trail to run and cycle. The official nonprofit partner for the C&O Canal National Historic Park is the C&O Canal Trust found at canaltrust.org. The course is also using trail that is on the American Discovery Trail! For information on the American Discovery Trail please go to discoverytrail.org. The American Discovery Trail Society has donated shirts and decals to the race, and packets have been stuffed with informational brochures. Great thanks to the American Discovery Trail Society! Race Start/Finish: on the Towpath south of C&O Bicycle at 9 S Pennsylvania Avenue Hancock, MD.
Packet Pickup: Packet pickup commences race morning at 7:15AM at the race start/finish; there is no Saturday night pre-race packet pickup
Race Start Time: 8:00AM for the marathon and 8:15AM for the half marathon; please be at the start line five minutes early for pre-race instructions
Parking: There is plenty of parking for runners. There are two parking lots located near the start/finish. One block east of C&O Bicycle is a large lot located just south of the paved Western Maryland Rail Trail between Williams St and Taney St S. A second lot is another block east located just south of the intersection of East Main Street and Church St. There is also free parking on Main Street on Sundays. Please do not park by the start/finish in the Little Tonoloway Day Use Recreation Area parking spaces.
Food/Drink: Gatorade, pb&j, ice, cookies, chips, soda, chocolates,and water. Halfers will pass six aid stations during their run, and the marathoners will have 13 aid stations. There will be chocolate milk for recovery after the race. If you want ice in your soda or ice in your bottle just ask. The race will not have any energy gels or electrolytes.

Miscellaneous: Runners are encouraged to leave a drop bag and/or car keys at the race start/finish. There are pit toilets at the start/finish. There is a port-o-let at or near each aid station. Thanks to the National Park Service for allowing this race to take place on the Towpath, and great thanks in advance to the Hancock High School students providing aid to the runners on race day. There are currently 50 entrants in the marathon and 42 entrants in the half; more runners will enter. Several runners will be starting early; email Mike if you want to start early at 6:45ish. Come join us for running fun on the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Towpath at the inaugural Hancock Marathon on Sunday September 30, 2018 in Hancock, MD! This flat and fast scenic course provides for numerous views of the Potomac River, the C&O Canal, and mother nature. This race will be the fifth and final event in the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Marathon and Half Marathon Series. The other events in the Series are the Brush Tunnel Marathon and Half, the GAP Marathon and Half, the GAP Trestles Marathon and Half, and the Barnum Rail Trail Marathon and Half. In order, the series races take place in MD, MD, PA, WV, and MD.
