Cancelled Event

An Honor Run
As you may already know, many of you were there, at last year's Eastern Divide we had a runner pass away on the course. He collapsed about two miles into the 8-mile course due to heart complications. After much effort from race volunteers, runners, and EMT, he passed. His name was Graham Zollman. He was from Roanoke, VA and a beloved member of the C&C Runners. For those of us that were there, it is a day we'll never forget.

Though we still intend to honor him on the anniversary of his death, we want to offer up the option to get outside and run in honor of him. If you go to our Facebook page (@trailadventurerunning), there is a photo album with a bib that you can download, print, and pin on. Graham was set to run 8-miles that day. Maybe go out and run 8 miles for him? Or, any distance!

If you would like, you can snap a picture of you with your bib, let us know, and we can add a Facebook Album set up just for this (@trailadventurerunning). Last year, the hashtag #bib261 came up a lot. Feel free to use that if you would like. You don't have to, but if you would like, you can tag us @trailadventurerunning to make sure we see it. Otherwise, just send us a message to let us know and we'll add it to the album.

There's no race fee, registration, or SWAG for this - just running. It doesn't have to be on June 20th - our schedule day for the race. It can be any time, day, or way you want. Feel free to spread the word if you'd like.

Over the years, I've found that running, especially trail running, has been vital in regards to my mental health. Maybe it's that way for you also. Try and get out if you can. Be safe and we hope to see you in the future. I do owe you a high-five, after all.

COVID-19 Update

We've had a number of questions regarding our plans for this year's Eastern Divide Ultra and 8-miler. Here goes...

Race day is scheduled for June 20th. The CDC's recommendation of no events with large groups, as of now, ends sometime in late-April/early-May. Other recommendations for larger sports gatherings extend into mid-June. The Eastern Divide date is *just* beyond the cut-off for that.

That being said, we're not at a point of canceling this year's race just yet. We recognize, though, that with the current situation with COVID-19 and news and restrictions being fluid, it can make folks hesitant to register for anything. That's ok. If you're nervous about signing up for something that may or may not happen, hold off. We're ok with that.

IF we end up canceling this year's race, there are 3 options:
1 - Defer till next year.
2 - Donate your entry fee towards Fitness in Action (a non-profit set up to get kids moving). We can mail you a tax-receipt.
3 - Transfer your entry to one of our Fall races (Lake Ridge Endurance Run (6 hour only), High Bridge Ultra, or Old Glory Trail Runs.

If we DO end up having the race, we anticipate having a lot of folks sign up last minute. We've waived the last pricing tier for the ultra and it'll be $75 from now till race day.

If you have any questions, let us know. We're keeping an eye on things and want to stay on par with what's going to help kick this virus. We hate seeing all of these races cancelled, and we hate the thought of doing it ourselves, but safety is always our number one concern.

Till then, train like you mean it (however that can happen for you!) and wash your hands!

The Eastern Divide Ultra is a scenic 50K trail race through the highlands of southwest VA. The point-to-point course will pass beneath waterfalls, meander through old growth Hemlocks and glide by waist high ferns. While we may not have the grand heights of the West, the Mountain Lake area has an average elevation of 4000', which provides for cooler temperatures and a diverse ecosystem.

NOTE 2019: The course will have to be rerouted to avoid the new clay shooting range at Mountain Lake. Once we have the final course laid out we will be sure to let you know. But we promise to keep the joy of the last 7 miles in tack!

EDU is cupless.

In an effort to be more sustainable and be friendly towards the environment, the Eastern Divide Ultra is now a cupless race. All runners will need to carry their own reusable cup throughout the race to use at aid stations. If you do not have one already, you have the option to purchase one of our TrailAdventure cups (a Hydrapak SpeedCup) when registering and it will be waiting for you at packet pick-up.
