About the Event

One of Durango’s most popular running races for over 25 years, the Turkey Trot is a holiday tradition for the whole family. Come burn off some calories and work up an appetite before your big meal!

The Turkey Trot features a 5-mile race and a 1-mile fun run for the kids. There is also a great prize drawing after the race. Each year this race raises around $4000 for the La Plata County Humane Society and Manna Soup Kitchen.

Throughout the course, you'll enjoy beautiful views of downtown Durango, the Animas Valley, and the La Plata Mountains.

Course Description

The race starts at the clock tower on the FLC campus, winds along Rim Drive to the golf course, then up into the Hillcrest neighborhood. It then proceeds down past the reservoir and behind the golf course before finishing back at the clock tower.

An aid station with water and PowerAde is available at mile 3 of the course.

The race will be entirely on roads. Some of you may remember in past years that we used a short section of single-track trail when weather permitted. We no longer do this. The race has grown so large that the trail segment is now a bottleneck. It can also be treacherous, and we want this race to be accessible and safe for everyone. Thanks for understanding.

The course is just shy of 5 miles (4.9 to be precise). It has one good uphill segment where you will earn your turkey dinner, and lots of beautiful views along the way.

1-Mile Fun Run Registration

Register for the 1-Mile Fun Run on race morning at the event. It's just $3. There is no need to register on-line for the 1-mile fun run.

The 1-mile fun run starts at 11am at the Clocktower, and does a lap around the west side of campus. All runners are expected to "gobble" like a turkey at the finish line!

Race Day Registration

Registration will be available on race day, beginning at 8:45am. The price increases to $20. If you choose to register on race day, please arrive no later than 9:30am so we can get everyone out to the start line on time.
