The Aoudad Trail Run

Welcome to the Diamond A Ranch on the Southwestern side of Leakey, Texas in the beautiful and scenic Texas Hill Country. Thank you for entering the Aoudad Trail Run, and we are excited to be a part of Trail Runner Magazines Trophy Series. The trails are rugged, technical, and beautiful, the accommodations are primitive, and the location is simply perfect. The route was laid out in an attempt to use the entire property, from the highway to bluffs behind Bee Cave Hill. The route has been freshly marked and cut out of some of the nastiest thickets and some of the most challenging hills you can find in Texas. The objective of the race is to make a trail race of varying distances that will challenge runners of all skill levels, but not be beyond the limits of runners trained for their selected distances. The Aoudad has close to 2000 feet of vertical climbing every 12.5 mi loop which is hard to find in Texas. We hope to provide you with an opportunity to experience some of the Texas Hill Country beauty combined with first class hospitality. Experienced trail runners know what to expect from the Aid Stations, Novices will learn that there is more than a cup of water, but there are no soft words at the Aid Stations – we want you to keep moving, but will be paying attention should you have legitimate medical needs. Packet-Pickup, Pre-Race Brief, and everything else are all at Kirby Flats on the Diamond A Ranch. Our website has directions to the Diamond A Ranch as well as information to help with travel and planning your race. We always happily accept volunteers to work on the race course with tasks ranging from course marking to tear-down. This is our favorite camping spot and it has been a labor of love marking and cutting out the trail. We hope that you will find as many natural wonders, beautiful vistas, wildlife, and challenges as we have.
