Minipi Outfitters and the Trappers Running Club with support from The North Face and Smartwool are excited to bring you the Doom Mountain 50! Join us on August 11th in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for the first ever ultra running event in Labrador! The 50km route can be taken on solo, or with a team of 2-4 people.

The course is split into 4 legs, each have their own set of challenges – sand, elevation, technical terrain, etc. The legs are 13.5, 8, 13.8 and 15km respectively. The race will start at 8:00AM from the Base Gym (399 Centralia Rd, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL), the first three legs all cross the same team transition & aid station. The final leg will finish at Minipi Outfitters (499 Hamilton River Road).

There is a 7 hour cut off time located at the start of the final leg, this is ~35km into the course. If you are not there by 3:00 PM you will not be able to proceed through to the finish.

We will provide you with water, Gatorade and snacks at the transition & aid station, however this is a cup-less event so ensure that you have a cup or water bottle. There will also be drop bag service for solo runners to have their supplies transported to/from the aid station.

The portions of the route taking place on Canadian Forces Base 5 Wing Goose Bay have been authorized. "5 Wing is pleased to support the Trapper's Running Club's initiative. My congratulations to the organizers and participants. To assume the challenge of a 50K Marathon is a testament to mental resilience, discipline, and a personal commitment to fitness. I wish everyone a successful and fulfilling event." - LCol Andrew Wedgwood, Wing Commander, 5 Wing Goose Bay.

All participants will receive a finishing medal.

Course Description

Leg 1 - 13.5km - Taking off from the Base Gym, runners will travel 2km on paved and dirt roads before taking a left turn onto a nice 1.3km section of hard packed trails. Now for a tough section, runners are faced with a 3km straight stretch of a sandy road, with a slight uphill grade. You'll be repaid with 3kms of beautiful narrow ATV trails - known as the Mona trail. A mix of sand but mostly hard packed ATV trail for another 3kms before you hit pavement and you're on the 1.3km straight stretch to the base of Dome (i.e. DOOM) mountain.

Leg 2 - 7.9km - Simple, up and down the gravel road of Dome Mountain.

Leg 3 - 13.8km - The most technical leg of the course. Enjoy the first 1km of sand packed road, after it narrows and rolls up and down loose rock hills for the next 3.8km. Once you hit South Branch Road enjoy a break from the trail, but be ready to start climbing. You'll be on the gravel road for 2.2 km before taking a left onto a 5km section of fun ATV trails. You'll hit Dome Mountain gravel road and then enjoy 1.6km of downhill bliss.

Leg 4 - 15.5 km - The final stretch, after 1km of pavement and a short sandy section, you've got 4kms of fun trails to enjoy, a few small ups and downs, and sandy bits, but mostly flat hard trails. Cruise through about 800m of pavement and then 1.6km of hard dirt road before taking a sharp left, about 800m to the fence of the range, and carry on beside it for another 650m before taking a winding 4.4km trail through old burned woods and finishing on the Loppet Trail until you hit the pavement. 2.3km to the finish pavement and trail mix.
