Course Description

UPDATE 5/28/19: The 8 mile course is clear and in great shape. The 25M course has a half mile section of snow that you will pass over on the way to and from the summit of Genoa Peak. I was able to negotiate this section without the use of poles or traction devices. I will give an update on course conditions on Friday evening after I mark the course.

25 mile:
The course starts and finishes in the historic Town of Genoa, Nevada. Runners will head north on Foothill Rd. for a half mile before turning left onto Centennial Rd.This road quickly turns into dirt and bends north. In approximately another half mile the course turns left onto Snowshoe Lane that quickly dead ends into the trailhead for Sierra Canyon Trail. From here the climbing madness begins with over 5000' of ascent to Genoa Peak. Two miles up Sierra Canyon Trail runners will be greeted with the first aid station at the junction of the Discovery Trail. The course turns right along this trail for .3 of a mile before turning left and continuing up Sierra Canyon Trail again. Runners will be greeted by an another aid station 8 miles up the trail at the junction of a dirt road. From this aid station there is 750' of climbing in 3/4 of a mile to the summit of Genoa Peak(9150"). At the top, runners will be treated to spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and the valley to the east. They will also receive their token for a free beer at Nevada's Oldest Thirst Parlor the Genoa Bar! After carefully securing this token, the descent begins by retracing the course back down Sierra Canyon Trail to the Discovery Trail. The course then continues south on the Discovery Trail for 3 miles before dropping into Genoa Canyon Trail which descends 1200 feet in 2 miles on narrow single track trail with tight switchbacks and steep drop offs, leading everyone back to the Town of Genoa. Once down to ground zero and onto Carson Street (dirt), they will turn left on Genoa Road (dirt) for their last few tenths of a mile to the FINISH LINE.
