The 2018 Lake Sonoma 50 will take place on April 14. Registration will be open from December 1-15, 2017, and a lottery will determine which runners will be selected to run. Lottery results will be announced by December 18. Runners who applied in 2017 and did not get selected will get two tickets in the lottery. Runners who applied in both 2016 and 2017 and did not get selected in either will receive automatic entry.
An out-and-back circumnavigation of the Warm Springs arm of Lake Sonoma. Fairly rugged terrain, 86% single track trails. About 10,500 feet of climb. Limited to 400 runners. Nine aid stations, 14 hour time limit. Finisher's jacket, coolmax t-shirt, other cool swag.
The course is 86% single-track trail, 9% dirt fire roads, with the first 2.4 miles on pavement. The trail is consistently (some would say relentlessly) rolling with three significant climbs. There is about 10,500 feet of elevation gain and an equal amount of loss over the 50 miles. Trail quality is generally good; there are very few rocks and almost no roots. However, much of the trail is seldom used and so you can expect a lot of leaves and sticks on the trail. There are 12 creek crossings and most (and maybe all) of them will be wet.
Pacers are not allowed due to the difficulty of providing adequate aid. C’mon, you can run 50 miles without a pacer!
50% refund if you withdraw by March 1. No refunds after March 1. Entries are not transferrable.
