Grass Mountain Trail Race

Welcome to our 1st Annual Grass Mountain Trail Race!

Sponsored by the Santa Barbara Trails Council

Join us for an unparalleled race destination weekend in Los Olivos, California.  This charming historic town of 1,000 residents is located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley and approximately 40 minutes from Santa Barbara.  The race location is minutes from Los Olivos where you will drive along pastures and cattle ranches ending at Midland School Ranch adjacent to Los Padres National Forest.

This amazing property is part of the Midland School property and now managed as part of a conservation easement with the Land Trust for SB County.  The Grass Mountain Trail Race is a part of the Santa Barbara Trails Council’s efforts to increase trail access and to fund trail improvement and maintenance efforts on the front country trails.   Proceeds from the race go directly into the Santa Barbara Trail Fund.

The race courses contain a short segment of double-wide trail/jeep road before you get dusty on varied single-track within beautiful oak trees.  You will experience parts of the trail that will allow you to run swiftly and flow along newly cut trail, and others which will require you to stay focused and be attentive as you change terrain or climb towards Grass Mountain.   This will be a most captivating race for all.  Regardless of the race distance you choose to do it will be challenging but most of all enjoyable.

Please join us Saturday, December 8th, 2012 for another lifetime experience! Grab a friend and join us! Be one of the first to participate in special Inaugural race– sign up, and be prepared to have your trail minds expanded!

Rain Day Race Cancellation Information

Santa Barbara Trails Council promotes good trail use practices and that includes not running on trails that are wet or muddy. Many of the Midland School trails are very sensitive due to recent work on them and we do not want to damage them. Entrants will receive a full refund if we are forced to cancel the race.

Driving Directions

From Santa Barbara — Take Highway 154 to the Figueroa Mountain Road turnoff (directly across from Grand Avenue in Los Olivos). Drive about 6 miles (you will pass the entrance to Midland School on your right). About a half mile past the entrance to Midland School you will see the "green gate" on your left. This is where we will be gathering to start the races.
