The 2014 Continental Divide Trail Race will again serve as the USA 10 Km Trail Championships with prize money for top USATF members and USATF age group medals. However, you DO NOT have to be a USATF member to run the race, the Continental Divide Trail Race is open to all with separate Continental Divide age group awards.
There will be separate men's and women's races, with the men starting at 9:00 am and the women starting at 10:15 am. Awards will follow the women's race. NOTE: We may hold only one race if numbers are low. That race (for both men and women) will be at 9:30 am. We will notify you by email of the time of the race at least 1 week prior to race day.
Lodging options are available at Laurel Ridge Camp and Conference Center, see their website, www.laurelridge.org for more information on lodging options.
The course will consist of open grass fields, wide trails/fireroads, and about half will be tight single track. The grass looks and feels like grass. The wide trails/fireroads are wide and easy. The single track is, well... tough. This is a trail national championship, not a run through another park trail race. Those races are great, but sometimes you want to push yourself on tougher endeavors. Most of the descents are fairly gradual but have a lot of turns, like on a trail going down a mountain. The climbs are steep; the race is in the mountains. You may be hiking some of the climbs but are free to run up if you like. There are plenty of rocks and roots to enjoy. So are you ready for a challenge? Come experience some primitive mountain trails and enjoy the beauty of the North Carolina mountains.
