Event Postponed

This event has been postponed from Apr 18, 2020. A new date has yet to be determined.

2020 Race to be Postponed to Fall 2020

Due to the COVID-19 virus spreading across the country and based on the CDC and Washington State Department of Health guidelines for large events, this race has been cancelled for the original April 18th, 2020 date. We are currently working to postpone the race to the fall, but we are still in the stages of getting permission from both our site venues and all permitting agencies.

As soon as we have more information for the registered runners, we will send an email, hopefully by the end of the week (March 20th) with what cancellation options we have available for runners.

Course

The Yakima Skyline 50K takes place outside of Ellensburg, WA near the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area on Canyon Rd. On the eastern side of the Cascade mountains, this out and back course is located in a beautiful high desert, rainshadow region of the area. The race is exposed, hot, and dry! And with nearly 10,000 feet of elevation gain, it's a tough 50K that some have described feels more like a 50 miler. Expect stunning views of the canyon and of the Yakima river below as well as views of Mt Rainier and the Cascades off in the distance. There are quad burning climbs, screaming downhills, and rolling ridgelines along fields of wildflowers.

Runners will see three aid stations along the course, including one that is a raft-in only stop. There will also be a water and electrolyte only aid station on the ridge. Because of the remoteness of this course and temperatures during the day, we require that all runners carry 32 oz of water. Runners will have 9 hours to complete the course.

Registration and Price

Registration for the Yakima Skyline Rim 50K will open on August 27th, 2019. The 50K is $115 and cost includes free wood-fired pizza, snacks, local craft beer as well as a live band for all runners, volunteers, and friends/family.

Post-Race Party

We do not offer finisher medals at any of our races, but instead choose to spend that money on providing a one-of-a-kind post race celebration. Runners, volunteers, and their friends/family get all the wood-fired pizza, local craft beer, snacks and other non alcoholic drinks they want and we always bring in a band to provide free live music at the finish line! We strive to create a sense of community where people want to hang out, cheer on their fellow runners, and share trail stories. Our finish line will be just as festive when the last runners cross the finish line as when the winners come through.

Camping

There is free dispersed camping at the start/finish area. This is limited to tents and vans/small RVs. There are no hook-ups or showers, but we will have portable toilets set up.
