The Yakima Skyline 50K takes place outside of Ellensburg, WA near the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area on Canyon Rd. On the eastern side of the Cascade mountains, this out and back course is located in a beautiful high desert, rainshadow region of the area. The race is exposed, hot, and dry! And with nearly 10,000 feet of elevation gain, it's a tough 50K that some have described feels more like a 50 miler. Expect stunning views of the canyon and of the Yakima river below as well as views of Mt Rainier and the Cascades off in the distance. There are quad burning climbs, screaming downhills, and rolling ridgelines along fields of wildflowers.
Runners will see three aid stations along the course, including one that is a raft-in only stop. There will also be a water and electrolyte only aid station on the ridge. Because of the remoteness of this course and temperatures during the day, we require that all runners carry 40 oz of water. Runners will have 9 hours to complete the course.
Registration and Price
Registration for the Yakima Skyline Rim 50K will open on January 5th. The price of the race is $95.
Camping and Post-Race Party
There is plenty of free camping at the start/finish area of the race, which is held on private land, so we ask that campers be diligent about cleaning up and leaving no trace. And as always with Rainshadow Running races, you can expect plenty of wood-fired pizza, beer, and live bluegrass music at the finish line.
