The Hyner Half is open to runners/speed hikers only. Aid stations and timing for this race are based on a strict 4.5 hour cut-off and "walking" this course would make it impossible to finish in time.. Last year, we had a 79 year old man and a 64 year old woman finish with 20 minutes to spare so it's a generous cut-off. All runners must enter a qualifying event and time before being an official participant. Here's the basic rule---list any race that shows you plan on running at least parts of the course. This event was not designed for walkers. Speed hikers are allowed.
The Hyner Half trail race is just that....it's a race. Some runners will be racing to place while others may be racing the clock. Runners will have 4.5 hours to complete the course. The trails that we have selected will keep runners moving through some very diverse terrain on some of the best trails in Sproul State Forest. 75% of the course will be on the same trails used for the Eastern States 100 held two weeks earlier. There will be three aid stations--mile 4, 8.5, and 11.5. Runners must get to the mile 8 AS in less than 2.5 hours or will be disqualified. At the 4.1/2 hour mark, the race is officially over and the timing mat and clock will be dismantled. There will be prizes for the top 3 male and female finishers and a picnic afterwards. Hyner Run State Park is a beautiful place for a race and also has a swimming pool for runners to use throughout the day.
