Come run a beautiful four mile loop at Lake Lurleen State Park. Then do it again. Then do it again.
Event's current local time: 7:42 PM CT
We'll sound the goose on the hour every hour. All you have to do is be at the starting line again and you are still in.
Run as many loops as you can or want to.
This is a well-groomed trail with minimal elevation (about 220 feet of gain per lap).
A great way to achieve your distance PR.
This is a unique format that forces you to hang out with friends and meet new people.
It's also amazing training for disciplining your pace.
You gain nothing from going too fast.
Come run some loops and test yourself and have a blast!
We will also offer with this race a male division and a female division. In the end, one female and one male will will be crowned "The Iron Turtle" of their division. This will be the last person to complete a loop after everyone else has thrown in the towell. Unlike with most backyard ultras, however, everyone else in this race will not be considered a DNF. Everyone will receive a laser-etched finisher's medal with their completed mileage on it (and a cool T-shirt).
Each loop will begin and end at the North Trailhead at Lake Lurleen State Park. There will be one full aid station here, and runners will also be able to set up their own personal areas for staging gear, etc From the North Trailhead entrance runners will run the Ridge trail counterclockwise and return. This full loop is 21,436 feet long (4.059 miles). Finish each lap within the hour and you're still in the game. That's basically it, but be prepared for a few surprises as well.
Another thing that makes this event unique: after 12 hours (48 miles) we will offer a "shoot-out" option. This means that if and when all remaining runners agree to put it to bed we will have one final "sudden death" loop. The fastest one to finish the loop will be the winner. We will only trigger this format if all remaining runners agree. If just one person objects, then the regular format continues.
Come join us for this unique trail running challenge. Dig in, pace yourself, and aim for your PR, or test yourself and see if you've got what it takes to become The Iron Turtle.
