Moscow Mountain Madness Virtual 50k

Palouse Road Runners presents: Moscow Mountain 50k, virtual edition! This low-key, community-supported race features the best trails (or at least, some of our favorite trails) on Moscow Mountain. Choose your own race day within the 10-day window, or try it multiple times.

Route

Starting from Four Corners parking, you will run 50k (approximately 31 miles), on dirt singletrack and sections of logging road, on a three-loop course. Run the loops in any order, in any direction. The route will be minimally marked with flagging and runners MUST have a map with them. PRR will not penalize or disqualify runners for slightly deviating from this course, as long as runners make their best effort to stay on-track and run at least 31 miles.

The route will not be flagged: runners MUST have a map and/or downloaded gpx files (available for download here: https://www.palouseroadrunners.org/s/MMM-50k-zip.zip). There is no official support, but the course will return to Four Corners parking area at approximately 10-mile intervals and we suggest crewing yourself from your car. You can also enlist friends and family to assist you.

Cache Dash: The course will includes secret caches of fun mystery items/activities along the suggested route. Find them all for a bonus prize at the end, and endless street cred as the best cache-dasher. Registrants will be sent instructions for finding each cache prior to race week.

Support

Consider this an unsupported race. There are no cut-offs, no aid stations, and no safety checks. Make sure you are adequately prepared to carry and/or filter enough water for each 10-miles section of trail.
Most carriers have cell coverage on the majority of Moscow Mountain, however, there are areas without service – please do not assume you will have service at any point, and make sure to download or print your maps beforehand.

To enter this race, you must register and sign the waiver on Ultrasignup.

Rules

The 50k course must be completed between September 22 and October 1, 2023, in a continuous activity – please, turn OFF auto-pause on your watch and/or Strava!! We trust you to be honest in your self-timing. You can attempt this race multiple times during the 10 day window and your fastest time will be recorded. Tag Palouse Road Runners in your Strava event OR send your .gpx file to Justin’s email (you will be sent instructions for this after you have registered). All results will be uploaded into Ultrasignup after the event closes.

Finally, always follow trail etiquette rules on Moscow Mountain – a race event does not excuse poor manners. Yield to downhill foot traffic, be patient with novice hikers or cyclists who may not be aware of etiquette, always move for horses, and be friendly when announcing yourself before passing anyone on the trail. If you poop, please do so away from the trail and water sources, and never leave TP in the woods (pack in in, pack it out).

Finisher awards

In addition to top gender-category finisher prizes, we will give awards for finding all of the caches.

With your donation of $10 to support our volunteer trail-maintenance effort and time, you will receive a one-of-a-kind T-shirt in your size. And trust us, you don't want to miss out on our new trail running logo! All runners will receive PRR-branded swag and a beer coupon for Hunga Dunga.

Runners who do not finish the course (DNF) will be awarded a special condolences prize. Even if you drop, still submit your route!

Awards/prizes will be mailed to the address listed on your ultrasignup account, or you can pick them up on October 8th at the Moscow Mountain Madness half marathon finishing area.
