Christmas at the Track
Join us this Christmas for a 6 Hour or 5K Ultra Run around the Track in Venice, FL. The 6 Hour Ultra will start at 3PM and end at 9PM. 5K runners will start at varying times based on their preference. At 6PM, runners will change direction for the duration and the course will be LIT with all sorts of holiday cheer. Lights and Christmas displays should keep you going. Food? We will have an amazing Chef on hand cooking up dishes such as Pho-la-la-la and quesadillas. A Christmas Cookie Aid Station will be on hand, with Milk and Cookies for those kiddos participating in the 5K. Awards will be Top 3 Male and Female in the 6 hour, Overall Male and Female in the 5K and top 3 M/F for 13-Under for the 5K. This will be a great family event. Decorate and light up your tent. Decorate and light up yourself! We will have a few items to raffle off as well. Come out for the greatest Christmas Party on the track you could imagine. Our previous track races have sold out typically 4-6 weeks in advance. We cannot expand the race count do to track/space limitations as much as we would like to.
6 Hour Ultra (3-9PM)
Run/Walk as many laps as you can. All runners will receive a special finishers award and special trophies for top 3 Male and Female runners. Veterans of brokentrack will be familiar with this fast rubberized course located in Venice, Florida. Aid stations will be plentiful, and you are free to set up your own canopy on the inside of the course. While we hope to be able to fully light the course with Christmas Lights, we may require runners to have some form of lighting to prevent any collisions at night. 6 Hour is limited to 60 Runners to ensure enough space for passing.
5k (Can start between 4-7PM)
Not sure about 6 Hours but still want to run this fun and unique event? The 5K option is for you! Here you will complete 12 laps in lanes 3/4 for a total of 3.1Miles. This race will have a rolling start, and runners can start the 5K any time between 4 and 7PM, depending on if they want to run in daylight or with the lights. 5K will be over by 8PM and awards will be distributed at that time. The time to start your race is up to you, but must it begin in the 4-7PM window, and will be dependent on space availaibility.) We tested this format at brokentrack 2023 and it worked out well!). Capacity will be limited to 40 participants. A Great option for the kiddos of 6 hour participants to get involved in this running event. Prizes and Milk and Cookies after.
Who Are We
This race will be hosted by Broken Runners and the team behind Brokentrack. We have been hosting Florida's only track ultras since 2021. Unlike Brokentrack - a hot, miserable June track ultra - Christmas at the Track should offer up great weather and greater fun and cheer! Timing will be brought to you by Durtiming. The race will be held at a fast rubberized track in Venice, Florida and the use is courtesy of The Haven, a great organization we are happy to partner with!
Race Details
1. Personal Aid Stations: You can set up a canopy on the inside of the track. Feel free to decorate it and have it lit for the night portion of the event!
2. Race Aid Station: We will have Chef Justin (Gadget Guy) running the Elves Pit Stop where he will be cooking up some awesome warm food. Expect quesadillas, warm PHO-la-la-la-la, bacon, and we will of course have your normal ultra food snacks and drinks and plenty of Christmas staples, but mostly just a lot of cookies :)
3. Direction Change: Runners will change direction one time during the race, at the midway point 3 hours in.
4. Runners will be credited for .25 Miles per lap completed. Your watch will most likely show you doing 1-2 miles more than this due to the nature of track running. Please expect your watch mileage to be higher than your track mileage!
5. Courtesy Rules: All runners have the right to the inside lane, yes even "slow" runners. You're fast, congratulations. It's your duty to run around other runners safely! If you are in the inside of lane 1, stay as far inside as possible so other runners may pass you also while utilizing lane 1. In other words don't run in the middle of lane 1. Finally, since runners will need to be able to easily pass other runs, please do not buddy up and run/walk side by side in the inside lanes and create a wall. Running should be done single file. If you need to buddy up, please take it to an outside lane (5 or 6).
Lighting: While we plan to light up the track as much as possible, please not that runners should be prepared to carry or have lights on them for the night portion of the race. We don't want runners colliding with other runners after all. This could be a headlamp or handheld light. Shoe lights are cool, or if you want to decorate yourself in Christmas lights even better!
Swag, Awards, Etc
Soft comfortable shirts (registration deadline 11/27 to guarantee a shirt), a finishers medal/ornament for all runners, tons of food, and some Christmas Giveaways are in the works. And expect some challenges during the race to earn a gift from under the Christmas tree (fastest first lap? Best dressed/most festive?). And of course, hopefully, a pretty cool looking Christmas Course with lots of decorations and lights and music (it's our first go so who knows how this will work!). Neat finishers awards. Bring out the family.
