Course Description

All runs will take place on the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail at Wilson State Park. The trail is easy-to-follow, rugged (yet 100% runnable), single-track with very few trees/wooded areas. Beautiful views of Wilson State Park and Wilson Lake are abundant. This is a BEAUTIFUL course and the only EPIC rated mountain bike trail between the Rockies and the Ozarks.

Elevation Statistics
The 50k will has about 3000 ft of elevation gain/loss, while the ½ marathon will has around 1300 ft gain/loss.

Description
The ½ marathon will be one 13(ish) mile loop with an initial 1/3 mile on pavement. The 50k will consist of a 19-mile loop, followed by another loop on the ½ marathon course. The 50k will be closer to 32 miles.

The course will be heavily marked with ribbons, flags, and wrong-way signs. This is an extremely easy course to follow.

Aid Stations
There will be two aid stations – the start/finish and “Hell Hill.”

Both aid stations will be well stocked and include your typical aid station items – A variety of typical ultra food, water, soda, and Proxima C Endurance Fuel. There will be an unmanned water/Proxima C station at mile 5. And another around mile 13 on the Hell Creek Loop (only applies to 50k runners).

The half marathoners will reach Hell Hill at around mile 10 and will take the cutoff to the finish line at that point.
From Hell Hill, the 50k runners will continue further on the “Hell Creek Loop” before circling back around to Hell Hill again, and then heading inbound to the finish. After finishing their first 19-mile loop the 50k runners will head to run the ½ marathon course to complete their 50k.

If it sounds confusing, it’s not! The course flows very easily, will be very well marked, and we will have volunteers at Hell Hill to help you.

Note- The 50k course is the exact 20-mile loop that is run at the Hell Creek 100 race series in September MINUS 1-mile. The mile you lose is between the water station at mile 5 and Hell Hill and is cut out by taking a simple cutoff. The ½ marathon course is the Hell Creek 100 course MINUS the previously mentioned cutoff between the water station at mile 5 and Hell Hill, AND minus the Hell Creek Loop.

Both races are GREAT training runs for our September series that offers 20-mile, 100k, 100-mile, and 140-mile options. The aid stations are in the same places and the courses are very similar!

Rules

CUTOFFS
The cutoff for both races is 5:00 PM. That’s 9 hours for the 50k and 8.5 hours for the ½ marathon.

PACERS
No Pacers Allowed

CREW
Crew is only allowed at the start/finish line. Crew may not assist runners anywhere except for the start/finish. Any assistance outside of the main aid station will result in disqualification – no warnings, no exceptions.

50k runners MUST CROSS the finish line before heading to their crew areas.

No special start/finish times – you must start with YOUR race!

Aid station items are for volunteers and runners only.

Drop bags are allowed at Hell Hill and the start/finish.

This is a state park, and you will need a Kansas State Park day pass or an annual pass. If you don't have one, you may or may not be fined. Please don’t ask us if you need one. It’s your call. You can purchase one on the way into the park.

Minimum age of 16 years old to race. Runners under 18 years old must submit an additional waiver signed by a legal guardian prior to (or the morning of) race day

You are allowed to change to a different distance prior to race day. This can be done (by you) on Ultrasignup by editing your registration. If you change to a cheaper distance, you will not be refunded for the difference. If you change to a more expensive distance, you will be directed to the cart, where you will pay the difference.

If you cannot attend please let us know at least three days prior to race start and we will take your name off of the entrants list. If you do not tell us at least three days before race start you will be listed as DNS on the results.

We DO NOT allow runners to drop distances after starting the race. If you start the 50k dropping to the ½ marathon is not an option on race day. You must finish the distance you start or you will receive a DNF.

If you litter, you will be disqualified.

If you cut the trail, you will be disqualified.

You must carry a means to hold water at all times.

No whining or complaining. ;). It’s supposed to be hard. It probably going to be HOT, and the wind might blow. If you’re prepared, you’ll be OK.

Race Cancellation – In the event the race is cancelled due to severe weather, or other uncontrollable circumstances we cannot offer refunds. Everything is typically already paid for at this point. That being said, it is highly unlikely, and we will do everything in our power to make sure the race happens.

NO REFUNDS or BIB TRANSFERS under any circumstances

Proxima C Endurance Fuel will be our sole carbohydrate and electrolyte beverage. It is the best ultra-fuel there is! If you haven’t tried it, get some here - https://ultraversesupplements.com/products/proxima-c-endurance-fuel.

Ultraverse Kansas Slam

THE ULTRAVERSE KANSAS SLAM
The Hell Creek ½ and 50k is eligible for the Kansas Slam! More info on the slam can be found at https://ultraversesupplements.com/ultraverse-kansas-slam

To be eligible for the slam you must run in
1. Eternal Damnation at Hell Creek
2. The Sticks 6/12/24/48/72
3. The Hell Creek ½ & 50k
OR
The Hell Creek 20-mile, 100k, 100-mile, and Pure Hell 140

If you run in BOTH the races in #3 the race in which you accumulate the most miles will be the one that is counted. The male and female who accumulate the most miles between the 3 races win the slam. ALL slam finishers receive an Ultraverse Kansas Slam buckle. Since the races in #3 are the only races that you can technically DNF signing up the Hell Creek ½ or 50k in August will give you a “safety net” to register for a more aggressive mileage in September! Plus, what better way to train than to run a race on the course!

Deferral & Withdrawal

DEFERRAL/WITHDRAWAL INSTRUCTIONS

100% credit if canceled within 60 days of the race.

• The credit will be attached to your Ultrasignup account and will automatically apply the next time you register for an Ultraverse Supplements event. Note - sending an email to us does not initiate the cancellation of your registration. You must do this yourself for the credit to apply. You can do this by signing into Ultrasignup and then going to your registrations and clicking “edit”.

• Your credit appears in your registration history under "outstanding credits and coupons".

• Credit will be valid for one year, cannot be “gifted” to another runner, and you must use the same Ultrasignup account in which you originally registered for the race that you withdrew from.
