Course Overview
Friday Day 1, Meet at the Foggy Dew Campground
Foggy Dew isn’t close to any major city. It’s a trek to get to, and runners will be glad to roll into basecamp after what’s typically a beautiful but long drive over the Cascades. We’ll have dinner and plan/prep for tomorrow runs.
Saturday Day 2, Larches and Alpine Running
After a hearty breakfast, two different runs are options for the Sawtooth trip:
15 Miler, Elevation Gain/Loss +5,248’ / -5,253‘
A short shuttle to the Foggy Dew Trail Head, climb to Cooney Lake, Sunrise Lake, and bask in fall larch’s golden glory.
30 Miler, Elevation Gain/Loss +8,048’ / -8,053‘
The 30 miler share the same climb to Cooney Lake, but continue north through Merchants Basin, to Crater Creek, Eagle Lakes, before looping back over Angles Staircase to Foggy Creek
Sunday Day 3, Breakfast and Road Trip
After a leisurely morning and breakfast, we’ll pack up and make the trek home. Typically we arrive back to Burlington/Bellingham by 2pm.
Description
Fall alpine running in the Pacific Northwest is defined by the quest for the perfect trifecta of (1) golden larches (2) blue skies and (3) snow dusted peaks. Nowhere is this splendor more reliable than the eastern flanks of the North Cascades. With 3 distances to choose from women of all trail abilities can bask in the glory of fall running and the special community and connection that comes from the pursuit of the perfect alpine day.
