Remembering Darrell Henry 1970-2016
"Darrell started running about 20 years ago because he was overweight, out of shape, and beginning to have health problems. It was a chore, but it became an addiction and his passion. He was diagnosed with cancer and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis in 2012. He had numerous procedures and surgeries following his diagnosis and each time he would ask his doctor how soon it would be before he could run again. Running kept him motivated, sane, and happy – not to mention tolerable to all those around him! He ran every day that he was able to and even on days that he had chemo. He ran on days that he was carrying a chemo infusion pack on his back. He ran for endurance, not for time. He said running, as well as his life, was about quality over quantity." -Misty Henry
His ashes were carried by his friend, Annette Schultz, as she ran the 2017 "Trail Trashed", his last race. Darrell's ashes were scattered by his family in the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area after the race, on Sunday, March 5th, 2017. We will miss Darrell. He is gone, but will never be forgotten.
We will always remember you Darrell, as being "CHEW TOY TOUGH!"
