Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area

Hagarville, AR 100 Miler, 50 Miler B, 50 Miler, 55K, 50K, Marathon

This Event Took Place Fri. Nov 1, 2024

“Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain, in itself, forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man’s heart.”—A. Camus-The Myth of Sisyphus

The 100 mile

“Thank you for putting on the race that tested my mental and physical ability more than any other thing on Earth. Also, the belt buckle is the prettiest, coolest buckle I have earned so far.” 2024 HM100 finisher

This is one of the hardest 100 mile ultras in the US.
When: October 23-24
100 Miler 10:00 AM Friday 23rd Haw Creek to Shores Lake.
We will be using MAProgress for live satellite GPS map tracking of each runner and Ultrasignup for live aid station in/out times all via Starlink satellite systems on course at aid stations.**
The Hare Mountain 100 is a point-to-point, graduate level run through some of the most isolated, rugged terrain in Arkansas. It is extremely difficult.
Please see the Runner's Manual on the main website for more information.

25k, 50k, 50 mile

The 25k a loop starting and finishing at Shores Lake. It has close to 3500' of elevation gain.
Start time is 9am, cutoff is 4pm. This is not an easy 25k but doable as a long hike if you are new to the sport.
The 50k is an out and back from Shores Lake with 7200+ feet of elevation gain and about the same loss. Start time is 9am. Cutoff is 10 hours.
The 50 mile is an out and back starting at Shores Lake with 12,000' of elevation gain and about the same loss. Start time is 6am. Cutoff is 16 hours.

105k

If we add it, the 105k will be called the Black Bear 105k. Finishers will receive a buckle. It will start at midnight Friday night (~11:59 PM Friday, October 23rd). We want for it to be a little unique and the night start keeps our aid workers from having to stay an extra 2-3 hours at their respective locations.
This is an out and back course from Shores Lake to the turnaround at Morgan Fields TH. It has over 15,000' of elevation gain. The cutoff is 20 hours. Runners have 9 hours to get MF, allowing for 11 to get back.

Where To Stay

-Everything is easier for you with a crew. You can camp at the start if you have a crew or some prearranged way of getting back to your car if you do not purchase a shuttle ticket. You cannot leave a car there otherwise. The race is providing transportation to the start from the finish at 7:45am Friday morning
-There are hotels in Clarksville (on I-40) about 30 minutes south of the start
-There are rentals in the area near start
-Ozone campground is at mile 17
-Redding campground is at mile 62.
Ozark is about 30 minutes south of Redding on highway 23 and has hotels. Turner Bend and Byrd's also have cabins and campgrounds near Redding. Turner Bend is on highway 23 and Byrd's is on highway 215 (same highway Redding and Indian Creek aid stations are on). There's also a lot of free dispersed camping in the area on forest service land.
-The finish is at Shores Lake Recreation Area in a campground. You can camp at the finish. Nearby is White Rock with a campground and cabins. There are hotels along interstate I-40 in Alma, Van Buren, Fort Smith (also suggested airport to use).
If you do not have crew and are riding the shuttle, Alma has the closest hotels near Shores Lake.

Our 100 mile finish rate in under 38 hours is well below 50%.
2023-0% under 38, 1 finisher out of 9
2024-43% under 38 hours
2025-36% under 38 hours-
2023 was our first beta year We had 17 total (all distances) sign up and 9 show up to the start. One finished the 100 with no set cutoff. A few others got credit for distance they covered.
2024 was our second beta year. We had 33 total sign up and 30 show up to start. 12/16 100 milers finished with no set cutoff. Seven made it under 38 hours. Everyone else got credit for distance covered.
2025 was our 3rd year with aid cutoffs and a final cutoff of 38 hours. We had 40 total sign up and 22 make it to the start. It was predicted to flood a few days before the race. It did not, fortunately, but it did affect turnout. It was a very rainy race, however.
7/11 got an official 100 mile finish, 4 made it under 38 hours. The 3 that finished beyond 38 hours--the RD did not have the heart to deny them a buckle after making all of the previous cutoffs, in cold, non-stop rain, for nearly 2 days.

Our distances are UTMB Index races.

We understand that some runners want to run in the HOKA UTMB races. We are simply offering them an option for qualifying and points.
