New Year's Day Training Run, powered by Salomon
We're excited to ring in 2024 with a lot of vert and beautiful scenery on Mt. Diablo!.
The annual Broken Arrow Skyrace New Years Run, powered by Salomon and in partnership with the local Beer Bucket Run, will be held on January 1st at 9am. We will meet at the Mitchell Canyon Staging Area in Clayton.
Paddy O'Leary, Broken Arrow Advisory Council member, Bay Area hero, and all around great lad has drawn up short, medium and long course options for your enjoyment. Course specifics are most readily available on our Broken Arrow Strava club page as well as our mobile app, which is best accessed from our website. As there isn't reliable cell coverage around Mt. Diablo, we STRONGLY encourage you to download the courses ahead of time. If you wait until you are at the venue, you will most likely be disappointed. As with our June event, we celebrate runners of all ability levels and hope that you and your friends will join us! Beginner, intermediate, or expert, at the Broken Arrow Skyrace New Year's Day Training Run, YOU are a rockstar.
As in 2023, we will start at 9 am in order to avoid the long line at the gate (the park opens at 8 am) and inevitable late start to the run. We encourage you to carpool and arrive early, especially so that you can demo popular Salomon trail models including the Thundercross, Ultra Glide 2, Sense Ride 6 and Glide Max Trail PLUS steep terrain-inclined trail running poles from LEKI, a perfect piece of equipment for the rowdiest terrain in the Bay Area.
Please note that there is limited parking that costs $6 (cash or check ONLY) per vehicle.
These runs are an absolute blast with more than 250 intrepid souls joining us for a bracing run up Mount Diablo to celebrate the New Year. In recent years, they've become miniature versions of our June event. With a summit aid station, provided by our friends at the Nomadic Adventure Club, and a post-event feast, complete with non-alcoholic beverages from Best Day Brewing, this a perfect way to ring in the new year. And perhaps most exciting, the aid station on the summit will showcase traditional Mongolian fare from the Nomadic Adventure Club, as well as the calories from Spring Energy and Tailwind Nutrition that you've come to rely and expect at our events.
As usual, we will have an awesome raffle with goodies from Salomon, Garmin, Leki, Nomadix and more. Please make sure to check in with Ethan upon arrival to get your raffle ticket. Each runner gets one lucky ticket.
After the run, which is inclusive and encouraging, we will enjoy post-run drinks and munchies and quality hang-time with our trail running community. This is such an exciting time for us as a community, as it kicks off the t-minus six month countdown until race weekend, the highlight of our year.
This is a free event but we do ask that you register on Ultrasignup. See you there!
