Route 66 UltraRun

Welcome to the 4th Annual Route 66 UltraRun. We're glad you're going to sign up to experience 140 Miles of History and A Race for Everyone. Our first rule is Have Fun, as clearly illustrated in our post-race video from last year. Take a look!

The race celebrates the history of the Mother Road, from the Bunion Derbies; “Oakie’s” during the Dust Bowl; the boom years of family road trips after WWII; decline after the interstate system bypassed mom- and-pop motels, restaurants, and shops; to grassroots resurgence leading to official recognition that Route 66 had “become a symbol of the American people’s heritage of travel and their legacy of seeking a better life.”

As A Race for Everyone, there are no qualification requirements other than your desire to toe the line and belief in yourself. Everyone – including crew, all team members, volunteers, and even spectators and community members – are welcome to join runners for the first mile of the race, starting at Angel and Thelma's Original Historic Route 66 Gift Shop in Seligman. Everyone must stay together for a rolling, Indy-style start. Cool, right? With 60 hours to complete the Route, and no intermediate cutoffs, you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the beauty and iconic stops along the way.

We also offer three different divisions to allow Everyone an opportunity to get your Kicks on Route 66.

Crewed Runners must complete all 140 miles of the Route with the support of at least two, and no more than four, crew people who may also serve as pacers. Two Crewed Runners may share a crew if they stay together for the entire race.

Journey Runners must complete all 140 miles of the Route but will not have the support of a crew; you must be able to be completely self-supported for up to 20 miles at a time and must always carry mandatory equipment. Aid will be provided for JRs (only) at the three Time Stations: Peach Springs/37 miles, Kingman/87 miles, and Oatman/115 miles. Mobile aid will also be provided at approximately 17, 57, 77, 100, and 127 miles.

Crewed and Journey Runners that get to the finish at Topock66 will get a finishers medal, belt buckle, and unique (each year) finisher's shirt and will compete for the traveling trophy, the Andy Payne Cup.

Relay Teams may be 3, 4, 5, or 6 people that take turns completing all 140 miles and crew/support each other. Whatever size team you choose, all teams will compete (equally) against each other in the Relay Team division. There are no set distances or transition points; you decide who runs when and for how long, and you can adjust your plan as needed along the Route. Use one vehicle and all stay together (3-person teams must all stay together the entire 140 miles), or have a main crew vehicle, always with at least 2 non-running members on board, and a shuttle vehicle to allow some members to go to a hotel to rest during part of the race. It's all about strategy, baby! Each member of your team will get a finisher’s medal the unique finisher’s shirt for the year.

Everyone will want to stay for the Awards Banquet; trust us! Amazing food, drink coupons, a live band, and loads of fun.

Registration is limited to 25 Crewed Runners, 10 Journey Runners, and 20 Relay Teams, so register now to secure your chance to join the fun that is the Route 66 UltraRun!
