Spree del Sol - Paddle/Run Duathlon

Jupiter, FL SOLO: Paddle & Run, TEAM: Runner Only, TEAM: Paddler Only

This Event Took Place Sat. Oct 26, 2024

Registration opens on Sunday, June 1st, 2025!

In 2024, we partnered with our friends at Blueline Surf & Paddle to host our inaugural event. We proudly return in 2025 to, once again, host this uniquely challenging and beautiful event showcasing the incredible coastal Jupiter playground of water, sun, and sand! Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 1st! Our capacity for this event is only 50 participants so it will likely sell-out, and probably quickly. So if you want a spot, don’t delay!

New for 2025!

For our 2025 edition, we are simplifying our timing and results. We will not be timing transitions, and your race will be timed as one, continuous activity from start to finish - the clock doesn’t stop between paddle and run portions. In the spirit of the “spree”, a spell or sustained period of unrestrained activity of a particular kind, your final result will reflect the entirety of your race including any stops you make to change clothes, shoes, aid station stops, etc.

Since there are no awards for individual legs of this race (paddling or running), they will not be timed individually. Awards will be given solely on finishing times and craft types.

Additionally, we will differentiate between stand-up crafts and sit-down crafts as they offer different competitive advantages and disadvantages when awards are distributed. Awards will be given for both categories separately for consistency and fairness.

Water, sun, and sand!

Welcome to the Spree del Sol - Paddle/Trail Run Duathlon in beautiful Jupiter, FL!

A spree is defined as “a spell or sustained period of unrestrained activity of a particular kind”, and this challenge will test your mettle against the currents of the Intracoastal Waterway and the sparkling white sugar sands of Jupiter Ridge Natural Area!

The Jupiter Inlet District and coastal Jupiter have been a playground for both paddlers and runners alike for many years with their pristine waters and rare coastal scrub environments offering scenic and challenging ways to enjoy and explore by watercraft or on foot. We are proud to be partnering with Blueline Surf & Paddle Co. to merge the paddling community with the trail and sand running community to bring you a premier event that promises to offer you the best competitive paddling and trail running experience around!

Solo or Team Divisions

You can either tackle this challenge solo and paddle yourself to Jupiter Ridge Natural Area to conquer the dunes before paddling back to the start/finish: Guanabanas in the heart of the Inlet District, completing your 4.6 mile paddle and 10k trail run!

Or…

You can grab a friend or make a new one and team-up to tackle this challenge as a duo! Form a team and play to each other’s strengths and race your way to a fabulous finish as one of you paddles and the other runs!

* IMPORTANT * see below for instructions on how to register as a team!

The Distance Deets

For our 2nd year event we’re going to keep it relatively simple (don’t confuse that with easy!) using the same tried-and-true community paddle route from Guanabanas in the Inlet District, going 2.3 miles south through the Intracoastal to the historic Ski Beach at Jupiter Ridge Natural Area where your run portion of the duathlon will begin.

Jupiter Ridge Natural Area is a true gem of coastal Jupiter and has been home to both our Sand Spur Ultramarathon as well as the infamous Trident Trail Race! Your 10k run will take you up and over ancient sand dunes more than 2 million years old and give you a tough but beautiful grand tour of one of Florida’s oldest and rarest environments. Once you have finished your run, hop back into the water on your craft of choosing and make the 2.3 mile trip back to Guanabanas for a finish!

Team participants will start from either Guanabanas or Jupiter Ridge depending on whether you are the runner or the paddler.

If you are a runner, you will park at Jupiter Ridge, walk back to Ski Beach before the start to wait for your paddler to arrive where you’ll be tagged-in to start your run. Your paddler need not wait for you to finish and they can return to Guanabanas. All paddle and run portions will be timed as one continuous activity, so if you are a solo participant taking on both the paddle and run portions, your total time will be the entire duration of your paddle to Jupiter Ridge, your 10k run, then your paddle back to Guanabanas. Transitions will not be timed - It will be timed as one, continuous activity. If you are part of a team, you and your partner’s respective paddle/run times will be combined for your final result.

If you are a paddler, you will start from Guanabanas, making the 4.6 mile round trip with a baton hand-off to your run partner in the middle. Don’t worry; we won’t make you carry a baton - we’ll have a necklace to replace the baton for hands-free paddling and running!

Acceptable Watercraft

We want to make this event as accessible as possible to the majority of the paddling community, and while this will likely be predominantly a SUP event, you may also use a kayak, an outrigger canoe, a surfski, or a prone paddleboard. While we’d like to welcome all craft types, we’d like to keep it within these types for both simplicity as well as keeping Ski Beach at Jupiter Ridge as uncluttered as possible. If you would like to participate with a craft not listed here, please reach out to race organizers for clarification.

Refund Policy

You are entitled to a full refund for any reason (minus the UltraSignup fee) if you cancel before or on August 31st, 2025. No refunds will be issued after September 1st, 2025 but you are entitled to a full deferral to the 2026 event. You can also choose to have your registration fee go to the PBC Natural Areas fund in lieu of a refund. If the event is cancelled or postponed due to weather or any other catastrophic event, no refunds will be issued en masse - a new date will be selected and the race will be rescheduled.

Swag, Awards, and Spirits

If you’re familiar with any of our past trail running events, you know we don’t skimp on swag! We provide premium shirts, accessories, and other assorted bling! Awards this year will be custom made by the talented Brie Los of Wicked Skins - simply the best in the biz! Your race will be professionally and accurately timed by Florida ultra timing guru Justin Radley of Trailhead Ultras!

Awards will be as follows: All finishers will receive a custom, hand-made medal, and top 3 men and women in both the stand-up and sit-down categories will receive podium awards. Due to the small entrants capacity, we will not be awarding masters, grandmasters, youth, or age group awards. Finally, we’ll all meet at Guanabanas after the race for some recovery libations!

This is a fully supported race with full aid/water stations at Jupiter Ridge, as well as pre and post race support at Guanabanas!

Registering as a Team

Both members of any team will pay their half of the registration fee individually. You will be asked during registration for the name of your partner, and if you are the runner or the paddler. If you do not know it yet, simply input “tbd” and we will add the name when you know who it is.
