About the Race
The Goshen Gallop originated in 1978 from the idea that Blueberry Hill Inn ought to host an event in the summer to match our annual winter event, the American Ski Marathon. In the early years the race took the runners through the roads of Goshen only, incorporating the ever famous and very steep Carlisle Hill known as “Goshen Heartbreak Hill”. Sometime in the early 80’s it was decided to make the Goshen Gallop a trail race, using the Blueberry Hill cross country ski trails and a few of Goshen’s rugged gravel roads. Over the years the Goshen Gallop has been held through every variety of weather elements--from the “mud run” in the 90’s and 2023, to high humidity, threatening thunderstorms, to low humidity and dust. For over 40 years the philosophy of the Goshen Gallop has been to stress the fun of the event by including great music, fantastic food and celebrated friendships.
Now in its 47th year, the Goshen Gallop course still takes the runner on those same gravel roads and cross country trails through the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area of the Green Mountain National Forest with fabulous views from the South end of Hogback – rated as one of the best views in Vermont.
By participating in the Goshen Gallop you’re contributing to a great cause – maintaining the very trails and bridges that you run over during the race. All proceeds go to the Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center, a registered non-profit.
