Broken Arrow Course Preview & Training Run:
We're very excited to welcome all runners back to the high alpine trails of Palisades Tahoe on Saturday, October 5th for our annual fall course preview and training run, made possible by Salomon. Registration for this unique course preview opens at 9am PST on Tuesday, August 13th and is limited to 100 runners.
Course marshals Steve Hammond and Jason Wilkins, along with race director Brendan Madigan AND other local trail runners will guide participants on a magnificent 18k-ish loop of the Broken Arrow Skyrace. We will include our course specifics in further email communications, but for now you can digest course specifics on the 23k portion of our website.
This is a great way to see the course first hand, while you get in a solid training run with roughly 3,000-feet of gain, at altitude ... complete with epic views of Lake Tahoe. This is a supported run with two aid stations on course, the first at Snow King (mile 5.0) and the second at Siberia (mile 8.0). At both stops, participants will be treated to basic nutrition in the form of Spring Energy and Never Second gels, as well as Tailwind drink mix, plus plain water and basic/skeletal assorted snacks and goodies.
While we will show you the high and exposed portions of the 23k/46k course, we always leave a little out to keep your imagination firing AND some great, unexpected fun on race day!
Please also note that the training run requires registration and is limited to 100 people. The cost is $55 and includes a light-fare breakfast/coffee from Coffeebar and a post-race meal, the specifics of which are TBD. Breakfast items will include: overnight oats (vegetarian), granola parfaits, classic croissants, ham and cheese croissants, energy bites and Single Origin coffee, while the post-run meal will include some semblance of: iced tea (green, black, and herbal), rice bowls with chicken, rice bowls with cauliflower, or superfood salads (with or without cheese) and last but not least, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies.
We'll have a great raffle with Salomon, LEKI, Nomadix, Garmin, Bubs Naturals, Sidas, Hydrapak and more. There will also be discounts on Salomon trail shoes and vests, LEKI poles, and more from our retail partner Alpenglow Sports.
Our friends from Salomon will be there with a demo set of their most popular trail models and LEKI USA will also join the party with plenty of demo Skyrunning poles. Additionally, all participants will receive ample freebies from sponsoring brands.
We will break participants into 4-5 groups, based on rough expected finishing pace. Each group will be led by leaders and the group will remain as a unit for the entirety of the run. Please note that if you sign up for this event we require that you stay with your group from start to finish, meaning you cannot descend the mountain on your own free will. This is a “no-drop” run and the goal is training AND friendly camaraderie. We want you to enjoy the day, make new friends and celebrate the ability to GATHER as a Broken Arrow community.
The group will meet at 7am (not required) at the far end of the Village (our traditional start line) where you can enjoy a light breakfast and fresh cup of coffee, compliments of our friends at Coffeebar. If you don't need food, you are welcome to come a little after 830am. The group will then break into pace groups before enjoying one pseudo-lap on the course beginning at 9am.
We will all then celebrate together over food and adult beverages! For those of you who have dietary constraints, we’ve got you covered with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options available. Registrations are non-refundable, regardless of issue, so please make sure you can make it before signing up.
