The Florida Death Race 74 ish miler
Florida Death Race
For unlucky year 13 of the Georgia Death Race we decided to take death on a vacation to Florida. A sunny place for shady runners, we thought.
The Florida Trail is an 1108 mile point to point trail spanning 3/4ths of Florida. A 74 mile section of the trail runs along the historic and picturesque Suwannee River. It’s one of the only sections on the entire trail with any elevation change. What this race lacks in elevation it makes up in technical, winding trail. While Georgia Death Race is meant to kick you in the teeth with uphill/downhill, this is meant to lure you in with the sirens song of being runnable until you are death marching.
The goal of this race is simple. To put you in an uncomfortable distance that isn’t quite 100 but feels like one IF you finish. To show off the most beautiful section of the Florida Trail. To put you on remote trail rarely seen by anyone other than thru hikers. This might be the most scenic race we have end to end.
The views of this black water river are more than stunning.
All runners, in true Run Bum Races Death Race fashion will be required to carry a 1 lb unengraved old railroad spike for the entirety of the race. This represents your burden. At the finish of the race IF you finish, you will throw the nail into the coffin and get an engraved spike that says "Florida Death Race," releasing your burden. For those that do not finish you will be left with your burden and have to take the old rusty spike home. Burdens weigh on us and get heavier with time.
As an added bonus the top 100 people for Florida Death Race will get early registration for Georgia Death Race ahead of everyone else.
And because we have the ability to and we want you to feel cute, for 2026 we will have the Florida BABY Death Race which will be the last 37 miles of FDR as a point to point.
Race details
Overall cutoff time will be 21 hours with hard cutoffs at ALL aid stations. This is a running race and you need to be running if you want to make it to the finish line. Georgia Death Race with 17,000 ft gain has a 25 hour cutoff. This has about 2,500 ft gain so cutoff has been given accordingly.
There will be 7 fully stocked aid stations and 2 water drops for this semi atomic race. We recommend a crew.
We have 2 drop bag locations. At almost every aid station there is crew access.
Rules:
All runners must carry the following for the ENTIRE race:
1. 350 Lumen or higher headlamp with spare batteries
2. Working cell phone
3. space blanket
4. Whistle
5. capacity for 2 L of water
6. The railroad spike we give you.

This is a point to point race from Full Circle Dairy in Lee, Florida to Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs. 90% of this race or more will be on the Florida Trail with a couple of exceptions where we go site seeing.
The trail winds around a lot and is very rooty in parts. Along the Suwannee there are several steelhead ravines with some very steep up and downs. All in all this course is 99% runnable.
This might be the most scenic race we have.
It also features a mandatory ferry crossing on the Suwannee River both ways to run some beautiful trails in Suwannee River State Park.
You will run along the Suwannee River for 75% of the race as well as run along the Withlacoochee River and Alapaha River. You will cross 2 abandoned bridges along the Suwannee River and see more massive live oaks than you can shake a stick at.
