Event Description
**PLEASE NOTE THAT ULTRASIGNUP HAS A GLITCH WITH TIME ZONES - REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEIR "LOCAL TIME" SAYS, REGISTRATION OPENS 12 NOON NEWFOUNDLAND TIME ON SUNDAY MARCH 1ST, 2026!**
The Outpost 8k Trail Race will host it's third edition of the race on Saturday July 4th, 2026, at 9am sharp, starting at the Father Troy's Trail trailhead on Windgap Road in Flatrock, Newfoundland and Labrador. It will wind its way out to the giant boulder, what RD Tim Warren has always called "The Outpost", turning around there and following the coastal trail all the way to Torbay Beach for 8(ish) kilometers of up, down, in, out, single track and wide open paths.
Please see the facebook page HERE for up to date information on the route, registration, and more as well as to ask any questions you may have.
**NOTE** Construction on the Tapper's Cove Wharf is slated to be completed this summer, but it may not be done in time for race day. Please anticipate this race could very likely follow the same "detour" route as last year, landing the total distance closer to 8.8km should the construction not be completed in time.
General Information
Entry Cost is $33 +Fees.
**NOTE** Due to Ultrasignup's policy for California, they have to display "all-included" pricing. Because we're not in the US, that functionality causes an error on the registration button showing $32.20 as the cost. Please ignore that and proceed to the payment section and it will indeed be the $33 plus fees.
Unregistration, cancellation, bib transfers, and refunds will not be allowed. Deferring to another event or next year's race will also not be allowed. Once a purchase is made, please understand all sales are final.
This event is not-for-profit and all collected funds will be used for operational costs, equipment costs, and costs resulting from Health and Safety measures. Anything collected over what is necessary to operate the event will be donated to the East Coast Trail Association and some other organizations local to the race location as a lump sum.
If you sign up and cannot attend on race day for any reason please contact the race director, Tim Warren as soon as possible at either outpostracing@gmail.com or 587-432-4773.
*NEW FOR 2026*
With the great success, and gained experience from last years race, as well as some excellent feedback, we're pleased to offer some exciting changes to the event!
1. We will offer NO waitlist this year - however, we will re-open registration on a first-come, first-served basis again on June 20th, opening up any spots that people have cancelled, dropped out, or otherwise. This may mean no new spots open, but with the extensive work that comes with a wait list, and this being entirely volunteer run, this is the easiest path for your race directors. While no refunds or bib transfers will be allowed again this year, any runner who drops out after registration will have their spot open for the June 20th re-open. As always, any funds from the dropped-out registrants will be part of our donation to the east coast trail association and won't be refunded.
2. We've increased capacity this year to 150 runners!
All other features of last year's race will continue this year like 3 categories (M/F/X) and medals for top 3 of each category.
Entrant Limits, Time Cut-Offs, and Courtesy
Given the trails are open to the public, we please ask you to respect other hikers as well as your fellow runners by letting them know you'd like to pass and expressing your wishes with a "on the left" or "on the right" as to not startle anyone. Trail races are on tighter and more technical terrain than road races will be so please do your best to compete with kindness and safety in mind.
To help mitigate environmental impact to the trail system, as well as an effort to make this manageable for insurance as well as the logistics, the race will be limited to 150 entrants max.
This race will have a cut-off time of either 1h45m if the detour around Tapper's Cove is no longer needed, or 2hrs if it is. The reasons for this are to limit environmental impact, to respect our volunteers' time, parking as well as traffic on the public streets at the Torbay Common and the finish area, cleared out in a reasonable time as to not interfere with the residents of this area who are so graciously tolerating us hosting this event.
Littering and causing damage to the course in any way (trees, vegetation, trail infrastructure, etc.) will NOT be tolerated and any runner or volunteer found in violation of this request will be banned indefinitely from any and all future events hosted by Outpost Racing as well as having their results voided from the records.
