NEW THIS YEAR

NEW THIS YEAR — Jacket System
This year we’re introducing a Black Toe Run jacket system to recognize long-term commitment to the event.
How it works:
All jackets will be the same design.
Images on the jacket represent the number of years attended.
Jackets are earned on your 5th year of attendance.
A printed yearly badge system will be used to track years (details coming soon).
Jackets are free, high-quality, and something you’ll actually want to wear.
If you believe you’ve earned a jacket, you must notify the Race Director in advance. All claims will be verified.

BLACK TOE RUN
The Pursuit of Congelatio
Event Description:
The Black Toe Run is a 12- and 24-hour endurance event for individuals and relay teams, held on a rugged trail loop at Hardin Farm in Watertown, Tennessee. The course is a ~5-mile trail loop with approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain per lap. The goal is simple: complete as many loops as possible within your allotted time. Relay teams consist of 2 or 4 runners, but individual athletes are welcome to take on the challenge solo. We accept no responsibility for frozen toes, questionable life decisions, or existential crises resulting from that choice.

Plans are in place to add a small new section of trail to bring the course loop to exactly 5 miles.

Course Challenges & Special Awards
100 miles in 24 hours has never been completed at this event—by any runner, male or female.
The first person to do so will either:
Have a statue built in their honor, or take home $2000
A custom beer stein will once again be awarded to any runner who completes 50 miles in 12 hours.

Awards M/F - 1-3 - Per Person
48 has no genders due to the time. So there is only a 1-3rd place

Race Rules
One runner (per team) is allowed on course at any given time.
Each runner must mark their time on the board when returning back from the loop. This is the only way we can keep track of your time and is based on the honor system.

Each team member must complete at least one lap every 12 hours unless a team member has been injured.

Runners are responsible for your own warmth, sleeping tent, and winter survival. Keep this in mind, as January weather in Tennessee can go nuts quickly.

At the conclusion of the race, runners are given a 15 min grace period to finish their final lap, after which a mile of their total will be deducted for every 15 min they are late (for example, at 10:15 one mile is deducted, at 10:30 two miles, and so forth). If you are gunning for the 100 mile record then there are strict rules in which you must be back exactly at or before the 24 hour mark.

Littering on the course will subject you to disqualification

Due to the extreme weather at this time of year, we reserve the right to cancel the event at any time. Final results will be calculated based on each runner’s placement at the call time as determined by that runner’s last completed lap. This rule is intended to be a last resort.

If you are struggling at any point, race officials have the right to evaluate you, and it will be their call if you will be allowed to continue. These decisions will be made with your safety and desire to finish in mind.

Runners may have crew support every lap. The crew must stay in the designated area on The Big Barn, and are not permitted on the course. Solo runners in the 24 hour and 48 hour can have someone come out with them after the 12 hour mark. Teams are not allowed to have anyone on the course with them.

HardRUCK

We’re excited to offer the Rucking Division again for each race. For those new to the concept, rucking involves walking or hiking with a weighted pack. The term comes from the military word “Rucksack,” meaning “Backpack.”

Weight Requirements:

Over 150lb: 20lb dry weight
Under 150lb: 10lb dry weight

Weigh-ins will occur 30 minutes before the race start—no weigh-in, no patch. The weight must be in the form of a steel ruck plate, weight vest blocks, bumper plates, or other items with clearly stamped weight. Participants may not remove or reduce the weight during the event and may face random checks at aid stations or anywhere on the course. We rely on the honor system, so please do the right thing.

48 Hours Rules

48-Hour Specific Rules
This is a very lonely hard option, it is meant for experienced athletes only. People who can go out and not need anything for several days is who we are talking about.

48-Hour Specific Rules
For the first 24 hours, runners receive water and electrolytes only and little aid
Minimal RD interaction, this is meant to test you.
You must fuel yourself and track your own laps for the first 24 hours.

There is no gender specific awards for this category. Everyone is equal due to the distance and time. Genetics will not help you here, grit and intelligence (or stupidity) will.
