Join us Friday June 12 , for a truly special event honoring the 250th Birthday of the United States — the Last Stand 1776 Backyard Ultra.. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a patriot at heart, or someone who simply loves a good challenge, this event is for you.
What’s a Backyard Ultra?
It’s more than a race — it’s a test of will, grit, strategy and endurance. Runners complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour on the hour with exactly one hour to finish each loop. The race continues until only one runner makes it back to the start line, on time, to begin the next loop. Think of it as a mental and physical battle… just like those faced by the brave men and women of our armed forces. It’s not about speed — it’s about perseverance, determination and strategy. The Backyard Ultra is your race to run........ however you see fit. Set a lap goal or a mileage goal. Or run to be the Last runner standing. It's all up to you but you will feel a great sense of pride with every loop you complete.
Not ready to go the distance?
No problem. Our Ultra Mini is the perfect option. You choose your number of loops. One. Two. Maybe more. Just enough to test your resolve and get a taste of the camaraderie and challenge of a Backyard Ultra. You might choose to run as a pacer for one of the ultra-runners. You might just catch the "Ultra Bug".
A Challenge Like No Other
The race begins at 500PM, and as the sun continues to sink you’ll be running under the vast Virginia sky. With each passing hour, the challenge intensifies — not just against your body, but against will, your stamina and your determination.
Camaraderie
There is no camaraderie like that of a group of ultra-runners, their support crew and the folks that come to cheer them on. Unless you have experienced it, you'll just have to take my word for it.
