Trystan’s Backyard Ultra
Join the Challenge at Trystan’s Backyard Ultra – Prairie du Chien’s First-Ever Ultra Event
For the first time in history, the scenic trails of Prairie du Chien’s La Riviere Park will echo with the rhythm of determined footfalls as runners line up for Trystan’s Backyard Ultra—a uniquely grueling and community-driven test of endurance, heart, and mental grit. Whether you're out to be the Last One Standing or simply want to be part of the movement, this is more than just a race—it's a celebration of resilience and unity on the trails.
The Heart of the Race: The Backyard Ultra Format
At 7:00 AM sharp on August 16, the bell will ring, signaling the start of an epic journey. Runners will have exactly one hour to complete a 4.167-mile loop. When the hour is up, the bell rings again—and you're off for another round. Miss the start or fail to complete the loop in time, and your race is over. Only one will remain.
If you're not looking to go the distance, join the 1-Lap Fun Run/Walk on the same course—open to all ages and abilities. No pressure, just one beautiful loop to enjoy with friends and family.
Trail Tested: The La Riviere Loop
The course winds through the natural beauty of La Riviere Park, a hidden gem nestled in the bluffs of Wisconsin. Each 4.167-mile loop features a mix of grassy fields, dirt singletrack, and light gravel paths, all surrounded by forest canopy and rolling Midwestern hills. With 200–350 feet of elevation gain per loop, it’s the perfect balance of challenge and flow.
You'll start and finish at the same spot each time, creating a supportive looped village vibe where camaraderie builds as the miles pile up. Whether it's your first loop or your fiftieth, the energy remains electric.
Fuel, Flow, and Support
At the heart of the course is a central aid station stocked with hydration and basic fuel to keep runners moving strong. This start/finish hub is more than a pit stop—it’s a rallying point. With cheering volunteers, race crews, and fellow runners ready to support you, this is where determination takes root and where legends are made.
Race-Day Experience
Expect more than just trail miles—this is a full-on race day festival. Custom shirts, local sponsor booths, energetic music, and an inclusive community atmosphere set the tone. All participants get free race-day photos to capture their experience. Finishers in the 1-lap fun run enjoy the full vibe without the pressure, while those in the Backyard Ultra push toward endurance glory. The final runner standing will take home a cash prize (amount TBD) and, of course, eternal bragging rights.
