Course

Participants will journey through a roughly 2.7-mile loop weaving from wide meadow lanes into charming single-track, beneath a hardwood canopy. You'll pass scenic riverfront views, tranquil lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and even cross historic train trestles — all designed to showcase the best of Petal River Park.

NEW! Community Friendly Walk
This year, we are offering a shorter walk loop to allow everyone an opportunity to see our beautiful park.

Both courses allow you to create your own experience and choose your own distance.

Experience

This tailgate-style event encourages runners and their supporters to create their own rest zones. Family and friends can cheer at the exchange as each teammate emerges from the woods and sprints the final meadow stretch. It’s a lively, communal celebration of endurance and camaraderie — perfect for team strategy, personal achievement, or a beginner's introduction to the ultra world.

Support & Amenities

There’s no on-course aid station due to the short loop, but cold refreshments will be available at the finish/loop start. Teams are encouraged to stock their own fuel at their personal tailgate site.
Parking & Camping: The park opens at 6 AM race day; drop-off zones for gear are provided from 6–7 AM. Tailgate spots are first-come, and solo ultra runners have priority spots on the course.
Overnight camping is allowed on-site, but without security.
Be mindful of natural trail features like roots and uneven terrain. Walkers and runners should bring hydration/all gear suitable for trail conditions.

Participation Options

Individual Ultra Runners: Complete as many 2.5-mile loops as possible within 6 hours.
Relay Teams (2–4 members): One runner on course at a time, passing a baton upon each loop completion. Only laps finished before the cut-off count. Batons can only be exchanged in the exchange zone.
Community Walk: A new, accessible walking course offers non-runners a chance to participate and enjoy the event’s energy.
Divisions include Male/Female for individuals and Male/Female/Co-ed for teams.

Swag Timing

All participants registered before the cut-off receive race swag. Timing is handled by Diva Timing: individuals wear bibs; teams use a baton system at the exchange. Final standings are based on completed laps, with ties broken by total time.

Why You’ll Love It

Run the River is more than a race — it’s a Saturday morning celebration of endurance, scenery, and community. With a tailgate spirit, scenic views, and flexible competition formats, it appeals to ultra veterans, relay racers, families, and trail newcomers alike. Plus, the stunning River Park backdrop makes every loop special.

Practical Details

Registration includes individual or relay participants at the same rate, and walkers at a lower rate. Packet pick-up details will be announced via email and the Facebook page. Bring everything needed for your personal tailgate, set-up gear the night before if desired, and follow the event Facebook for updates and course preview schedules.
