White Tank Throwdown

A straightforward, grassroots trail sereies in the White Tank Mountains. Expect technical climbs, fast-flowing singletrack, and classic Sonoran Desert views. This is a dirt-bag-style event run by runners for runners—no sponsors, (yet) no swag bags, no fluff.

We’re a small, tight-knit community that values everyone who shows up, whether you’re chasing a PR, finishing last, or helping at an aid station. The best moments happen on the trail and around a cooler afterward.

Come run with us. Simple as that.

Course Description

The White Tank Throw Down courses wind through the spectacular terrain of White Tank Mountain Regional Park, blending fast, flowing perimeter trails with rugged mountain paths. Expect sun-drenched singletrack, sandy washes, light scrambling over rocky sections, and sweeping views of the Sonoran Desert. All routes start and finish at Group Camping parking, with well-marked trails that challenge your endurance while rewarding you with wildflower-lined canyons (in season) and distant mountain panoramas. Hydration is self-supported—bring your own bottle or cup, as no disposable ones will be provided. Drop bags are welcome at the start/finish. Final details may adjust slightly for weather or trail conditions; GPX files and elevation profiles are available on the event page.

The 30K kicks off with a steady roll along the Ironwood and Waddell perimeter trails, easing you into the desert flow before diving into the Ford Canyon Trail for its signature ruggedness. You'll tackle light scrambling and sandy stretches here, looping back through Mesquite and Willow Canyons for a mix of punchy climbs and smoother descents. One remote aid station offers a fueling break amid the remoteness, keeping the focus on steady pacing through the park's wild heart.

The 10K keeps it accessible yet spirited: a quick out-and-back on the flatter edges of Ironwood, Waddell, and Ford Canyon Trails. It's prime for newcomers testing trail legs or veterans honing speed, with minimal tech and just enough roll to build rhythm without overwhelming the effort.

Distances

**30K:** A solid intro to desert ultras at 30 kilometers, weaving perimeter flats with canyon ruggedness. Double the Ford Canyon for scrambling and sand, plus Mesquite and Willow for varied vibes. Please note that after you depart the start line the only remote aid will be at Mesquite Canyon roughly 8.6 miles into the course. You have lots of climbing to do! Please plan accordingly and bring enough water. The second aid station will be through the start/finish line at roughly mile 15.6 leaving only about 2.4 miles to the end of the race. ~2,500 ft of gain over 6-hour cutoff—tough but doable for most trail runners. (Course map: [Link to GPX])

**10K:** Fast and forgiving at 10 kilometers, sticking to the park's smoother perimeter and entry-level Ford Canyon. Ideal for a sharp morning shakeout or first trail race. ~600 ft of gain over 3-hour cutoff. (Course map: [Link to GPX])
