We Get To Do This!
We're back for year six!! We have the 10ish mile one loop race and the 50k three loop race again this year. The loop is a nice mixture of single track, wide trails and some pavement. perfect for first time and seasoned trail runners. Two aid stations once again with lots of goodies and healthy options. All paces welcome and encouraged. A generous 9 hour cut off for the 50k and 10 Miler.
Awards/Goodies
Long sleeve tech t-shirt to all participants registered by 9/20/26. 10 miler finishers will receive a Womp Romp Patch. 50k finishers will receive a finisher mug.
Bring Food
Once again we are asking for runners to bring food or beverage to help stock our aid stations. We had great participation last year and donated the extra food to Safe Harbor, a great resource that focuses on reducing underage substance use and addiction. Please bring one of the following to packet pick up
Savory - Chips, pickles, potatoes & salt, etc....
Sweet - Candy, baked goods (please include all ingredients), PB, fruit, etc.....
Liquid - Coke or Ginger Ale only, please
Your donations allow us to give more to our charity partners
Why are we doing this
I have been running in Wompatuck State Park for years. Often during runs I would say "someone should put on a race." Instead of waiting for someone, I decided to do it.. Wompatuck is an amazing park with great trails and I want more people to know about it so they can enjoy it. All profits will be donated to our charity partners. Current partners: Friends of Wompatuck, Free to Run.
About Friends of Wompatuck
The Friends of Wompatuck State Park (FOW), an all volunteer, not for profit group, was incorporated in early 2006 for the purpose of educating the public about the park's uses and historical value, as well as helping the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation preserve, maintain, and enhance the assets, history, and other features within the park. About Wompatuck
Wompatuck State Park is located in Hingham, MA - just 35 minutes from downtown Boston. Rich in history, this land was originally the property of Indian chief Josiah Wompatuck who deeded the land to English Settlers in 1665. During WWII and the Korean War, it served as an ammunitions depot for the U.S. military. Today, it is a 3,526 acre park that extends from Hingham into the neighboring towns of Cohasset, Scituate, and Norwell.
About Free to Run
Free to Run’s mission is to drive change in community gender norms in conflict areas by supporting adolescent girls and young women to advance their leadership and wellness through running. We do this through providing deep, progressive leadership and wellbeing programs in conjunction with running experiences - typically to refugees, internally displaced people and girls’ and women who identify as ethnic minorities. While we work closely with communities and individuals, we are working towards a systematic shift in gender equality with a specific focus on the expansion of access to public space and leadership opportunities for girls and women.https://freetorun.org/

FAQs 2026
When is the race? Saturday, October 24, 2026. 50K starts at 8:00 AM and the 10 Miler at 8:30 AM.
What is the course? The 10 Miler is one loop. The 50K is three loops plus a little extra to get you to 31-ish miles. Expect singletrack, wide trails, about 2 miles of pavement per loop, roots, rocks, leaves and probably mud.
Is this race beginner-friendly? Absolutely! From experienced ultrarunners to first-time trail runners and first-time 50K runners, you belong here.
What should I bring? Something to carry fluids! Womp Romp is cupless, so bring a handheld, vest or collapsible cup. We also love when runners bring a favorite snack to share at the aid stations. Totally optional!
Can I leave a drop bag? Yes! 50K runners return to the start/finish before loops 2 and 3 (around miles 10.5 and 21). Leave a bag, cooler, shoes, clothes or snacks. Your car will also be nearby.
Can I set up a tent or canopy? Sure! Make yourself comfortable in the designated start/finish area.
Can I build a campfire? Nice try. No. :)
When is packet pickup? Friday, October 23 from 4:00-6:30 PM at the Wompatuck Visitor Center, or race morning starting at 6:45 AM at South Field.
How do I get there? Set your GPS for Wompatuck State Park Visitor Center. Continue about 2 miles into the park until you see Womp Romp signs, then follow them to South Field.
Can I park at the Visitor Center? Sure, but you'll have a 3-mile hike to the start! Follow the signs to race parking at South Field instead.
How far is South Field from the Visitor Center? About 15 minutes driving or an hour walking. Probably not the warm-up you want before a 50K.
What's the cutoff? 9 hours (5:00 PM). You can do this! 50K runners must leave for their final loop by 2:00 PM.
Where does my race fee go? Race fees cover the costs of putting on Womp Romp, including those lovely blue porta-potties. Nobody involved with the race is paid. We're 100% volunteer-run, and after expenses the remaining proceeds go to our charity partners.
Who are your charity partners? We're proud to support Friends of Wompatuck, who help care for the trails we love, and Free to Run, which helps girls and women in conflict-affected regions through running and outdoor adventure.
Will there be mud? Yes. It's Wompatuck in October. Embrace it.
Will the course be marked? Oh yes. About 300 pink flags plus hundreds of arrows. We're going to make it very hard to get lost. If you try really, really hard, you probably still can. Follow the pink flags and arrows and you'll be fine.
What about bathrooms? Beautiful blue porta-potties at the start/finish and bathrooms at the Visitor Center around mile 6. 50K runners pass them each loop.
Where are the aid stations? At the start/finish and around mile 6 at the Visitor Center. 50K runners hit them each loop.
What's at the aid stations? Water, Open Fuel, candy, chips, pickles, fruit and other ultra favorites, plus whatever goodies our runners bring to share.
What won't be at the aid stations? Cups! Please carry a bottle, hydration pack or reusable cup. Less waste, cleaner trails.
Can family and friends come? Absolutely! Come hang out, cheer and be part of the day. 50K runners return to the start/finish between loops.
Still have questions? Message us on Facebook at Womp Romp Trail Race or email wompromptrail@gmail.com. We're runners too and we're happy to help!
