Weighted Racing is Coming to Virginia!
What if there was a race where you could compete with speed OR strength? That’s what weighted racing is all about! The inaugural Roanoke Valley Weighted Race will take place Saturday Aprill 11, 2026.
You choose how much weight to carry at the start of each lap of the 2.5 mile out-and-back course, from River’s Edge North to Piedmont Park and back, along the scenic Roanoke Greenway. That weight will be multiplied by the lap distance to arrive at your score, in pound-miles – which we call “Kz.” So for example, carry 10 pounds and score 25 Kz for that lap. Keep the same weight for the next lap or change things up. Do as many laps as you like, but you’ll need to finish your last lap before time expires. Be as creative as you like with what – and how – you carry it: ruck / backpack, weighted vest, sandbag…hydration bladder with some weight in it. As long as you can carry it, we’ll weigh it.
We’ll recognize overall winners and age groups, as well as awards for hitting individual Kz milestones. Do you go heavy and slow, or lower the weight and try to get another lap or two in? It’s all up to you!
