Flat and Fast. The Freedom 50 course is a straightforward out-and-back along the Foothills Trail that allows you to test your speed and mental strength with two tough distances. There are two distance options. 50 mile and 50K. The course stretches from downtown Puyallup all the way up to the edge of Enumclaw for 50 milers. There are no massive climbs or highly technical terrain to slow you down here—just a scenic, paved path where you can lock in a rhythm and chase a PR.
That said, running 50K or 50 Miles on asphalt is its own kind of beast. It’s a relentless mental grind that requires grit from the start. Whether you’re looking for the perfect course to tackle your first ultra, or a way to snag a big PR, this is your race. And there is no worry about missing the cutoff with a generous 15-hour timeline to get it done.
50 Mile
50 Mile Course Details
You’ll start in downtown Puyallup alongside the 50k crew and head straight out onto the Foothills Trail. The route takes you through some of the best scenery in the valley, including a crossing over the new White River Bridge.
The Elevation (or lack thereof): The first half of the race is a very gradual, steady incline. It’s subtle enough that you might not feel it at first, but pace yourself early. Once you hit the turnaround, you get to reap the rewards: a gentle, gravity-assisted decline all the way back to the finish party in Puyallup.
Aid Stations: You’ll hit our fully supported aid stations 8 times throughout the day, plus the finish line.
The Turnaround: Your halfway point and final outbound aid station is located at the Veterans Monument in Buckley’s Memorial Park—a great spot to reset your mindset before heading home.
Sign up, lock in your training strategy, and we'll see you on the trail on Memorial Day weekend.
50k
50k Course Details
The 50k option is a fantastic opportunity to step into the world of ultra-running or chase a fast personal best. While it doesn't have the technical terrain or big climbs of a mountain race, 31 miles on a paved path is a substantial challenge that requires smart pacing and solid endurance.
You’ll share the exact same course as the 50-mile runners, starting in downtown Puyallup and heading out along the Foothills Trail toward South Prairie before turning back. Because it’s flat and smooth, it’s a great setup for marathoners looking to push their distance further, or for experienced ultra-runners looking to see how fast they can cover 31 miles.
The Strategy: The first half of the course has a very slight, gradual incline. It’s subtle, but it's important to pace yourself early so you don't burn out your legs. Once you hit the turnaround, you can take advantage of the gentle decline all the way back to the finish line.
Aid Stations: To keep you moving, you’ll hit our fully stocked aid stations twice on the way out and twice on the way back, for a total of four support stops.
Whether you are targeting your very first 50k finish or aiming for a new personal record, this course gives you a fast, scenic route to get it done.
